Happisburgh Lighthouse

[edit]

The part about Anna Guerny campaigning for a lighthouse at happisburgh cannot be correct, as Happisburgh Lighthouses became operations in 1791 https://happisburgh.org.uk/lighthouse/history/ Purplejumper (talk) 15:29, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I was confused by that but decided to leave it in as I assumed the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography would be the most reliable. I've removed it now so we can figure out what happened. The exact ODNB quote is this: "in 1830 she successfully campaigned to Trinity House to have a lighthouse—thereafter the 'Gurney light'—installed off Happisburgh." Could it have been another lighthouse or something else? Beejamjam (talk) 16:26, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I've gotten further in adding information from a journal article I have access to; it was in fact a lightship, not a lighthouse! Beejamjam (talk) 22:35, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
