does not mean article in good standing, even with research. Most sources are first person interview. Other sources indicate only local newspaper. No secondary discussion of person. Should delete given doesn't meet WP:Notability Abs145 (talk) 17:12, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
- I am contesting the PROD. The LA Times, LIFE magazine, and Sports Iillustrated are hardly local papers, nor would I classify them as interviews. -- Whpq (talk) 14:38, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
- So the Sports Illustrated references included in this article are simply the same interview with her printed in two different internet archival formats. Please take a look at the source before you judge. Being on one cover a magazine that has run for 50+ years is surely not grounds for significance.
- The LIFE Magazine clipping is actually a direct link to Simonton's organization website: MediaWatch. Meaning the original source is not provided and she is attributing this to LIFE but I am unable to find the original source doc or a link to the specific issue. This therefore cannot be considered an appropriate source, given its provided by the person in the BLP from their original research. There is NO LA TIMES source in here at all so I don't know where you got that. Please reconsider as I think you made a hasty decision. Abs145 (talk) 19:21, 8 December 2025 (UTC)
- Regarding Sports Illustrated. Ann was on the cover of the 1974 Swimsuit issue, the highest yearly publication issue of Sports Illustrated. A simple google search proves she was on the cover, and to be chosen is not nothing.
- Regarding the LA Times, the archival interview is on their site: https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1986-06-14-me-10690-story.html
- Regarding Life magazine, their archives are behind firewalls that require payment, so verifying that will be intrusive. I don't, however, see why it is assumed that she would lie about it, plus having a direct link to her site does not invalidate anything. It actually looks as a positive of someone who kept their own records of their professional career, something not only models do. I reject this as a reason for deletion as it seems personal and not factual. ~2025-37108-44 (talk) 19:08, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- yeah but does every SI cover girl have a wikipedia page? Please provide evidence on another person (at least one) gaining a wikipedia page solely for the fact that she was a cover girl on SI > 50 years ago.
- Not really that notable IMO in the sense that I'm not sure what the contribution is. Nor do we really have a big culture around the SI models anymore.
- Again, the LA times is primary sourcing (interview) and doesn't count towards a high quality source. Finally, its nothing personal, but Wikipedia has rules against self promotion. Why you think its a positive that she documented herself - is beyond the scope of this conversation as it pertains to wikipedia.
- So overall, you can debate me on whether she's notable, but the sources would indicate that she is not notable in that we cannot find secondary or neutral articles discussing any contributions she has made, besides the ones I previously listed. Abs145 (talk) 20:39, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
Regarding a 14:42, 1 December 2025 deletion of facts
[edit]This was deleted: '..., and has allegedly been arrested and jailed multiple times for committing acts of non-violent civil disobedience.<ref>There is no source on Simonton's police record. This information has been touted by Simonton herself in a number of interviews and podcasts but at this time cannot be confirmed."
I can confirm 2 arrests at the Miss California pageant along with an arrest at Miss Nude in San Jose, in 1982 and 1983, as I was arrested with her. Police records do not exist because for protests like these, the police merely arrested us, took us to jail, and released us after a few hours. No charges were ever presented to the DA nor were any ever filed, as non-violent civil disobedience is protected free speech by the 1st amendment. Here is the link of a photo of Ann getting arrested at the pageant in 1982 https://www.instagram.com/p/CpVzjlFyWQJ/ which came up on a simple search of her name. Whoever stated that there was no prof of her arrests did not properly, and easily, attempt any research. There is actually a lot of information about her on google simply by googling her name and therefore should be the bare minimum for any edit of her page. ~2025-37108-44 (talk) 18:49, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- again an instagram post is not a notable source. please provide sources as per Wikipedia:Reliable sources guidelines. for both better or worse - no one on WP knows who you are, we don't use original research here, and you must meet guidelines before you complain that unsourced, anecdotal evidence was deleted from WP. There's a reason we have guidelines. And while it may have happened, if we cannot reliably provide evidence, we cannot use an anecdote. Or else this page would be rampant with old stories from people who think their lives are important which is not what WP is a place for. Abs145 (talk) 20:40, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
