Location of Amb
[edit]We have conflicting sources on the location of Amb:
- The current English Wikipedia states 34.19°N 72.51°E/34°11'24"N 7°30'36"E, which is in the town of Totalai 20 km away from the Indus river and therefore obviously wrong. The Urdu Wikipedia copied this value.
- The initial English Wiki article has two references
- First Amb - Imperial Gazetteer of India, v. 5, p. 275. which has 34°18'N 72°55'E. This targets to a mountain saddle 1,600 m AMSL 5 km east of the Indus.
- Second Fallingrain.com which has 34°19'00"N 72°50'60"E. This is 500 m east of the former Indus river on it's right bank. The given elevation of 395 m AMSL seems to be calculated from those coordinates and fits to OpenTopoMap. Minimum operating level of the Tarbela dam is 420 m and its ground valve is at 396 m. So this location is mostly sunken, some fields nearby are farmed.
- Current Google has a hamlet named Amb at 34°19.070'N, 72°50.718'E which is 200 m east of the shore of the Tarbela reservoir at its maximum water level and 450 m eastwards on the same slope as the FallingRain position.
