So, we have a source—the 2011 documentary Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest—that ascribes the name Ali Jones to Muhammad while he was in high school. However, there is one of three possible situations:

Jones adopted the stage name Ali Shaheed Muhammad, in which case the introductory sentence should read: "Ali Jones (born August 11, 1970), known professionally as Ali Shaheed Muhammad, is…"
Jones legally changed his name, in which case the introductory sentence should read: "Ali Shaheed Muhammad (born Ali Jones, August 11, 1970) is…"
He has either a double last name or uses his middle name as his stage name. I am still chasing sources, but in either of those, we'd mention a single name with no born or known professionally clause.
