Criteria

What exactly does constitute a poet being meeting the criteria of having importance or significance? More people knowing about their work, which is exactly why this article has been started. As far as the literary importance of any writer it is, as always, according to the reader to interpret.

Ahh, but to get more people to know about him is not the purpose of a Wikipedia entry. Documenting fame and notability already garnered in reliable sources is a better approximation. Have you got documentation of any awards, honors, or media coverage of him? I'm right on the cusp of denying the speedy deletion in order to try a broader audience, but I'd like to see at least one major-media source/unbiased review before doing so... the SLC article is a start, have you got another? -- nae'blis 22:47, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm pretty new to editing on wikipedia, but I'm working on a major edit to this article. I plan on giving a more complete set of references to Alex and eliminating what I can see is unsubstantiated. I've added a bunch of performances, publications and so forth that Alex Caldiero has participated in. I am now in process of gathering all the sources. I'm a bit confused about what needs to be sourced --. I'm gathering ISBN's for all the books, but am not sure how to document events that weren't written about. wickenden

If it wasn't written about anywhere, it's not includable in Wikipedia just because we can't prove it ever happened. Personal experience doesn't count. His own (published) statements at a later date can help, but they generally won't provide enough detail to really craft a coherent narrative. Following up after 18 years. But, on this issue, Caldiero's career has since grown significantly. The regional media coverage of his death, earlier this year, supports a case for the maintenance of this article. HomeGrownPotatoes (talk) 18:22, 31 July 2026 (UTC)

Sonosopher inclusion and definition

Normally I wouldn't support including self-ascribed titles which are poorly defined (if at all). "Sonosopher" is a title that Caldiero made up, which has not been adopted by any other artists that I am aware of. However, in the spirit of representing Caldiero as a public figure that drew substantial, albeit regional, attention, I think it is relevant to point out that every single publication which has ever referenced his work has felt the need to specify that he is a "sonosopher." It is included in the title of the documentary about his art and all of his obituaries. Whatever it means, to the public it was a notable and inseparable part of his identity and fame.

This still leaves the issue of explaining what it means to preserve the clarity of Wikipedia. I am not sure that a perfect solution exists. There is no agreed upon definition that would meet Wikipedia's standards of consensus. In leu of consensus we will have to point to some authoritative source and for that there are two options:

• We might refer to Caldiero's own definition of "Sonosophy." The main problem with this is that in every instance, his definition is itself artistic, expressive, and vague. It provides little by way of clarity.
• Alternatively, "sonosophy" was the subject of a dissertation completed in 2011 by Tyler Chadwick (https://motleyvision.org/2017/11/20/the-problem-and-promise-of-sonosophy/). It certainly represents his own personal view, but it is the only academic treatment of the term that I am aware of.
