Aircraft type names
[edit source]There is a confusing mix in the use of KC2/3 Voyager and A330. At least it should be made clear these are different versions of the same aircraft. ~2026-30619-45 (talk) 10:39, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
Registrations
[edit source]I don't think that the registrations belong in the table as this in an encyclopaedia not a plane spotter site. 10mmsocket (talk) 17:41, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
- I agree - feels extremely excessive. Especially as there isn't as much detail on other areas that are likely of greater interest such as "Notable Operations" etc. Alfiechidzik (talk) 15:42, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks. The whole table could be cut down, as it is with the fleet section of other airlines, to just one row per aircraft type with supporting sources. 10mmsocket (talk) 20:06, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- I can have a go at rationalising it along those lines. Alfiechidzik (talk) 21:20, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Go for it. Shout if you need help - although I'm not around much tomorrow. 10mmsocket (talk) 21:29, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- I'll get to it tomorrow evening Alfiechidzik (talk) 21:55, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- I think there is a useful middle ground here. The current table may contain more detail than necessary, but reducing it to a single row per aircraft type would lose information that helps explain this unusually complex fleet, particularly which aircraft have different configurations and which are leased for non-RAF duties. Those are meaningful operational distinctions rather than simply plane-spotting data.
- Perhaps the table could be rationalised by removing incidental details while retaining registration-level entries to show differences in configuration/use? Mark83 (talk) 10:35, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- I'll put my edits on hold for the moment until a consensus emerges. Personally I think the most important information about the fleet is the fact that there are 2 distinct operators (with 2 further subcategories for each given the RAF VIP plane and the Jet2 / Thomas Cook contracts) and 3 distinct aircraft variants. Which we already have in the "Versions" sub-section.
- The rest of the information feels like drowning in detail which detracts from the more salient points. But I don't feel so strongly about it that I'm willing to argue the point if others feel strongly otherwise. Alfiechidzik (talk) 11:56, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Similarly I don't feel so strongly that'd I'd dig my heels in on this. I suppose the middle ground I'm proposing could be achieved by stripping out the Airbus serial number column, removing a whole lot of text by not spelling out "Royal Air Force (RAF)" in each row, having a simple number of "seats" for each without the waffle of "premium economy" etc, and nearly everything in the notes column: I really don't think it's important to have the temporary French and Spanish registrations used during ferry flights/modification for example. That's the kind of trivia people can find at plane spotter sites if they're interested. Mark83 (talk) 15:10, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- I think that approach makes sense. Why don't you go ahead and make that change - should improve readability a lot Alfiechidzik (talk) 15:19, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the replies. I've had a go, see what you think. Happy to discuss/see any other redrafts. Mark83 (talk) 15:52, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Looks good to me. I have also put a couple of sub-section dividers in the History section to make it a bit more digestable. Feel free to revert if any strong objections Alfiechidzik (talk) 16:13, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
