Title change Cont.

[edit source]

Tomorrow morning, KCNA and Rodong Sinmun will probably publish the report on the 11th Session of the 14th Supreme People's Assembly. I would suggest to rename the article only if the report will specifically mention change of the anthem's name. Other than that, the article should be renamed after the full text has been published.--SkyOfRose (talk) 11:43, 8 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

AegukkaNational Anthem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea – North Korea has officially changed its name Coddlebean (talk) 09:02, 31 August 2025 (UTC)  Relisting. TarnishedPathtalk 05:35, 8 September 2025 (UTC)  Relisting. ~/Bunnypranav:<ping> 13:34, 21 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

The wording in the article is a bit more conservative than that; it just says that in a single broadcast NK used that wording. Do you have further evidence that NK now consistently uses that new name? grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 02:02, 2 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I watched many NK parade on KCTV & the subtitles displayed when they played the national anthem read (in Korean) "National Anthem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea" instead of "Aegukka" Coddlebean (talk) 02:17, 2 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
While I'm willing to take your word for it, for the sake of others and for documenting this, could you share links to such videos? grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 02:22, 2 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
just search "조선민주주의인민공화국 국가" (National Anthem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in Korean) on Youtube & you'll find many such videos in 2025. I can't provide links because it will get blocked by Wikipedia... Coddlebean (talk) 03:24, 2 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I searched that and there isn't really clear evidence that suggests a name change, especially not from WP:RS. Could you tell me the title of a specific video from KCTV? Or the video code, like the part of the URL, e.g. what comes after watch?v=. grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 03:30, 2 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
the title of the video on youtube is《조선민주주의인민공화국 국가》【립체음=스테레오】"The national anthem of the DPRK"【Stereo】『朝鮮民主主義人民共和国国歌』【ステレオ】 Coddlebean (talk) 04:44, 2 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
For others reading, this is the video: . Unfortunately this is not acceptable as an RS; if you read the video description it says it was translated by that YouTuber. WP:UGC not reliable source for determining English title. grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 04:57, 2 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
No I mean this IS the 조선민주주의인민공화국 국가 title they used. see 0:14 Coddlebean (talk) 05:47, 2 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
You are talking about the English text on screen, correct? That was added by the uploader of this video, who isn't KCTV. You can even see that the non-Korean text is all slightly off sync because it was added in post. grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 08:20, 2 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
No, in TV they did show 조선민주주의인민공화국 국가 on their screen below on 0:12-0:14, take a closer look Coddlebean (talk) 08:57, 2 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I see. While they do show that, I'd still prefer more direct evidence of what the English title is. It could be that the title we're translating to is just OR and not the official name grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 14:18, 2 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

While I would like evidence in reliable sources before a move, the fact that this article and Aegukga are disambiguated by a single letter stemming solely from a romanization difference is real janky. There may be an argument via WP:NATURALDAB for a descriptive title, or perhaps a "premature" move despite lack of conclusive evidence. For example, maybe "North Korean national anthem" would work as a title while the situation remains unclear. Toadspike [Talk] 23:48, 16 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Undiscussed page move

[edit source]

On June 6, 2026, the article was moved from "Aegukka" to "National Anthem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea" by NeoSyria. There have been two prior requested moves which resulted in no consensus. It has already been argued that "Aegukka" is the WP:COMMONNAME for the article topic. ~2026-36975-43 (talk) 20:46, 26 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

I will restart a page move, but it's definitely clear that It has already been argued that "Aegukka" is the WP:COMMONNAME is completely false. NeoSyria\Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 01:09, 28 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

AegukkaNational Anthem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea – I'm starting a new page move request per objection from @~2026-36975-43, in which they falsely claimed that "It has already been argued that "Aegukka" is the WP:COMMONNAME for the article topic". For my reason, see the reasons for past page move requests on why it should be moved to the same name that I'm requesting. NeoSyria\Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 03:28, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

@NeoSyria, do you have evidence of an official name change beyond the single video mentioned in the 2025 RM? Toadspike [Talk] 01:42, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
