- What I think should be changed: The text relation to my departure as Legal Ombudsman is factually inaccurate. The statement that I was dismissed is untrue: although there was an attempt to dismiss me by the Chair (reflected in the report cited), this was overturned by his own Board at appeal; I can produce evidence of their decision and the matter was raised in Parliament. The issue involved was also not "irregularities in his expenses" as written but a technical issue of the definition of what was proper use of grant in aid (the definition agreed with my previous Board and accepted for six years by the Ministry of Justice was later refused by a new, shortt-lived Permanent Secretary); the fact that there was no impropriety in my approach to my expenses was testified to by her successor in evidence to the Justice Select Committee (I do not have the citation to hand but can provide it if required). The whole, rather shady process was explored independently by the (independent and respected) legal journal Legal Futures [1]
- Why it should be changed: The inaccurate reporting of the matter on your site is very damaging to my career and reputation. I have dealt with the issue in relation to the other sources cited (particularly the Law Society Gazette), who have accepted their reporting was not factual. Until recently, I had not realised that Wikipedia was still running an inaccurate version and it needs to be changed or - since the issue is now more than a decade old - removed entirely. I did attempt to correct these myself a few months ago but I now realise that trying to do that directly is, quite rightly, not allowed on the site!
