Hello, I am planning on reviewing this article for GA Status, over the next couple of days. Thank you for nominating the article for GA status. I hope I will learn some new information, and that my feedback is helpful.
If nominators or editors could refrain from updating the particular section that I am updating until it is complete, I would appreciate it to remove a edit conflict. Please address concerns in the section that has been completed above (If I've raised concerns up to references, feel free to comment on things like the lede.)
I generally provide an overview of things I read through the article on a first glance. Then do a thorough sweep of the article after the feedback is addressed. After this, I will present the pass/failure. I may use strikethrough tags when concerns are met. Even if something is obvious why my concern is met, please leave a message as courtesy.
Best of luck! you can also use the {{done}} tag to state when something is addressed. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs)
Please let me know after the review is done, if you were happy with the review! Obviously this is regarding the article's quality, however, I want to be happy and civil to all, so let me know if I have done a good job, regardless of the article's outcome.

[edit]Lede
[edit]- The 2000 World Snooker Championship (officially the 2000 Embassy World Snooker Championship) was a professional snooker tournament that took place from 15 April to 1 May 2000 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England, the 23rd consecutive year that the World Snooker Championship was staged at the venue. - this is a very long lede sentence, could we split it in two? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:31, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- MOS:CUE suggests things like "world" when meaning "World Championship" should be capitalised. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:32, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Can you please point me to where it says that? I didn't know and I'm not sure which of the "world" need changing and which don't. Alavense (talk) 06:32, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
- Sure.
- Stephen Hendry was the defending champion, having defeated Mark Williams 18–11 in the final of the 1999 World Championship to win his seventh World title. He lost his first-round match against Stuart Bingham, a qualifier who was making his debut at the Crucible. Williams defeated Matthew Stevens 18–16 in the first-ever all-Welsh World final to claim his maiden World title. The main stage of the tournament produced 54 century breaks, of which the highest was a 143 compiled by Stevens in his semi-final match against Joe Swail.
- There may be more in the article. As a rule of thumb, only use it all lower case if you are talking about the planet. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:07, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'm unsure about this. Having a look at similar featured articles (2015 World Snooker Championship, for example), "world" is not capitalised in those cases. Besides, I can't find the exact mention to it on MOS:CUE. Alavense (talk) 13:27, 21 September 2025 (UTC)

- the highest was a 143 compiled by Stevens - can we say when he made this break? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:33, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
General
[edit]- Do we have no information about the qualifiers, as in the summary. Even just a bit about who was debuting, etc. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:47, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Do you mean adding a subsection for the qualifying stages in the summary section. I would have to look for additional sources for that. Alavense (talk) 06:33, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
- I do, as much as I'd like a section on all of the qualifiers, just a bit about who was making debut, who they beat to get there would be plenty for now. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:04, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
- I could not find much about the qualifiers. I added a section, though. Alavense (talk) 14:14, 21 September 2025 (UTC)

- The prose doesn't seem to mention the dates of the event. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:47, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Added. Alavense (talk) 20:13, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- We don't need to say the amount of frames and sessions in the format and again before each part of the summary. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:47, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- I think it is useful, though. Someone may jump to the summary section without reading the one about the format. I think it makes the summary more coherent and brings a bit of order to it. Alavense (talk) 20:10, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, I like it there too, but I don't think we also need it in a reasonably small format section as well. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:03, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
- It is pretty standard practice to have an overview section and then give the details again once we get into the summary. Outside of snooker, 2022 FIFA World Cup has it: a Schedule section with the dates and the dates then repeated for the summary. Alavense (talk) 13:30, 21 September 2025 (UTC)

- We could probably add a bit more about Bingham winning over Hendry. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:47, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Another qualifier, Joe Swail - as every match has a qualifier, this is a bit irrelevant. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:47, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- The previous edition runner-up - grammar. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:52, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Ronnie O'Sullivan led David Gray 5–1 and 9–7 in a match in which he compiled five century breaks, but Gray won in the deciding frame. "When Ronnie [O'Sullivan]'s in the balls he's a genius but I knew he couldn't keep it going forever. It's a massive result. It's the best day of my career so far," Gray reflected. - probably worth stressing that Gray won this match, I know it says that, but on a skim it doesn't look right. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:52, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Rephrased. Alavense (talk) 06:26, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
- . "I expected a tougher match against Darren [Morgan] because he's a very good player—but I'm glad to be through," Doherty said. - this quote is unsourced, but it doesn't say much, I'd suggest removing it. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:52, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- It is sourced with the following reference, the one after the quote by Stevens (see this). Alavense (talk) 20:13, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Steve Davis took the first six frames of his duel with Graeme Dott[29] - did they get guns out? Also, why is the source after Dott's name? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:54, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Changed to "match". The reference is placed there because it only supports the first six frames. For the rest of the match, the following reference is needed. Alavense (talk) 20:08, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- slow." "I think - this should be ..., rather than two "". Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:54, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Amended. Alavense (talk) 20:11, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Dale had a 7–1 advantage against Gray at the conclusion of the first session and won the match with a session to spare. Dale made three century breaks in the process. He became the fourth player—after Davis and Neal Foulds in 1988 and Parrott in 1991—to get a 13–1 result in the second round of the World Championship. - this is quite hard to tell they won 13-1. Probably better to spell it out a bit better. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:56, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- I think it's clearer now. Alavense (talk) 06:27, 21 September 2025 (UTC)
- me," Dale said. - if we have a quote, we should cite it directly afterwards. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 18:58, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- Is that a thing, though? WP:CONSECUTIVECITE specifically says "Per MOS:CITEPUNCT, citations should be placed at the end of the text that they support". However, if there is a specific guideline on that, please let me know and I will edit it accordingly. Alavense (talk) 20:06, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
- See the first line of Wikipedia:Citing sources. We should cite quotations, and it should not be ambiguous as to where we need to look to verify that someone said something. Due to potential BLP issues, we should never have a quote not be sourced, and the best way is to be transparent and put it directly after a quote.
