Princewill A. Chike

Princewill Anthony Chike is a Nigerian physician and professor of medicine, hailing from Eligbam Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. He was appointed the 10th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt in June 2026.

Career

Chike served as Chairman of the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board before entering the executive arm of government.[1] On 31 August 2017, he was sworn in as a member of the second Wike Executive Council in Rivers State.[2]He was appointed Commissioner for Health in September 2017, a position he held until 2021.[3]

Vice-Chancellorship

In June 2026, the Governing Council of the University of Port Harcourt approved the appointment of Chike as the institution's 10th Vice-Chancellor, following the successful conclusion of a statutory selection process conducted in compliance with the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act and the University of Port Harcourt Act.[4] He succeeded Professor Owunari Georgewill, the institution's 9th Vice-Chancellor, whose tenure expired on 13 July 2026.[5] Chike formally assumed office as the 10th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt on 13 July 2026.[6]

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, expressed confidence in Chike's capacity to provide visionary leadership for the continued growth and development of the institution.[7]
