Pain suisse (French pronunciation: [pɛ̃ sɥis] ⓘ) is a French viennoiserie made with viennoiserie dough filled with vanilla pastry cream and chocolate chips.[1] Its name translate as "Swiss bread" although the viennoiserie originated in France and is not common in Switzerland.[2]
A chocolate-covered variation of the pain suisse, sometimes known as the africain, is also sold in France.[3] This viennoiserie is especially common in the Valenciennes region of northern France.
