"PNGNP" is a song by Filipino boy band BGYO from the group's second studio album, BE:US. It was released with the album on November 3, 2022, through Star Music, with an accompanying music video premiering the same day.[1] NME identified "PNGNP" as the album's key track.[1] The song was written by Theo Martel and Brian Barboso and produced by Kidwolf.[2]

Michael Major of BroadwayWorld described "PNGNP" as drawing on a Drake-era sound, with production driven by a vocal sample and synths, and characterised it as a slow-burning groove that differed from the other material on BE:US.[3]

Background and release

In October 2022, BGYO announced "Magnet" and "PNGNP" as part of the rollout for BE:US. NME reported that "Magnet" would be released on October 20, ahead of the album and the music video for "PNGNP" on November 3.[4]

"PNGNP" and its music video were released with BE:US on November 3, 2022.[1] MYX Global described "PNGNP" as the album's lead track and reported that its music video accompanied the album's release.[5]

Composition and lyrics

"PNGNP" is an R&B track built around a vocal sample and synth-led production. Major described the production as featuring dewy synths and a slow-burning groove, drawing comparisons with a Drake-era sound.[3]

LionhearTV highlighted the song's slower rhythm and vocal performances, while noting that its sound was not especially distinct within BGYO's existing discography.[6]

The title "PNGNP" is a stylised rendering of the Filipino word panaginip, meaning "dream".[7] Wish USA described the song as being about a short-lived romance in an imaginary setting.[8]

Music video

The music video for "PNGNP" was produced by YouMeUs MNL and directed by Kerbs Balagtas.[2] It premiered alongside BE:US on November 3, 2022.[5]

NME described the video as having an enchanted-garden theme, with BGYO portrayed in a fantasy setting corresponding to the song's dream motif.[1] MYX Global similarly described the video's visual treatment as having a dreamy aesthetic that complemented the song's theme of a fleeting romance.[5] LionhearTV praised the video's choreography and its warmer, more restrained visual palette compared with several of the group's earlier music videos.[6]
