Nagaland United Sports Club (NUSC), commonly known as Nagaland United, is an Indian football club based in Chümoukedima, Nagaland. Established in 2024, the club competes in the Nagaland Super League (NSL), the top state-level football competition in Nagaland, organised by the Nagaland Football Association.[1] The club plays its home matches at the Chümoukedima Football Stadium, which has a capacity of around 5,000.
Nagaland United finished third in the inaugural 2025 Nagaland Super League season and won the 25th edition of the NSF Martyrs' Memorial Trophy later that year, defeating Chedema Village Youth Organisation 3–1 in the final.[2][3]
History
[edit]Foundation and early years (2024–present)
[edit]Nagaland United Sports Club was established in 2024 ahead of the launch of the Nagaland Super League, with a stated mission of promoting unity and progress through sport and providing local youth with training and opportunities.[1] The club was one of the seven founding members of the league, alongside 27 United FC, Barak FC, Frontier Warriors FC, Longterok FC, Red Scars FC and Sechü Zubza FC.
The Nagaland Super League, and with it Nagaland United's first competitive fixture, was launched on 28 January 2025 by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at a ceremony inaugurating the newly built Chümoukedima Football Stadium; the league's opening match saw Barak FC take on Nagaland United Sports Club.[4]
2025 Nagaland Super League
[edit]In the round-robin league phase of the inaugural 2025 season, Nagaland United finished second of seven clubs, recording six wins, three draws and three losses from twelve matches, scoring 22 goals and conceding 9. Results during the season included a 3–0 win over 27 United FC, in which forward Nisede scored a hat-trick,[5] and a 2–1 victory over Frontier Warriors on match day 11.[6]
The club's second-place finish took it into the league's page playoff system alongside league winners Barak, and third and fourth-placed sides Longterok and 27 United. In the second playoff match on 27 March 2025, Nagaland United were beaten by league leaders Barak.[7][6] They were subsequently eliminated from title contention after a 1–0 defeat to Longterok in the third-place playoff match on 31 March 2025, finishing the club's debut season in third place overall.[6] Barak FC went on to win the final against Longterok 3–1 to become the league's first champions.[7][8]
2025 NSF Martyrs' Memorial Trophy
[edit]In October 2025, Nagaland United Sports Club entered the 25th anniversary edition of the NSF Martyrs' Memorial Trophy, an annual club tournament organised by the Angami Students' Union at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima.[9] The club defeated Mao Students' Union in the quarter-finals[10] before beating Anal Lenruwl Tangpi 4–0 in the semi-final on 16 October 2025, with Sanathoi scoring twice and Jenish and Joel Haokip each adding a goal; Arap Konyak was named player of the match.[11][12]
In the final on 18 October 2025, Nagaland United defeated Chedema Village Youth Organisation 3–1 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, to win the tournament for the first time. Arap Konyak, Joel Haokip and Manton Konyak scored for Nagaland United, with Chedema's consolation goal coming via an own goal by Nagaland United's Zidan Singh.[2][3] The champions received a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, with runners-up Chedema Village Youth Organisation receiving ₹3 lakh.[2]
