Gretsa University

Gretsa University is a private university in Thika Municipality in Kenya that provides certificate, diploma and degree programmes.[1]
History
[edit]Gretsa University opened in September 2006 after receiving the Letter of Interim Authority from the Commission for Higher Education in May 2006.
The university began with three degree programmes in Business, Computer Science and Hospitality Management. The third class of degree students graduated in December 2012.[1]
In 2018, the university was audited as part of an investigation into allegations that Mombasa governor Hassan Joho's degree from the school was fraudulent.[2] The audit uncovered unrelated grading fraud that led the Commission of University Education to recommend revoking the university's Letter of Interim Authority.[3]
In November 2025, Gretsa was awarded a full charter by the Kenyan government, replacing the interim authority that it had been operating under since 2006.[4] It became the 31st private charted university in Kenya.[5]
