Merge to Netflix

[edit]

Hello, any discussions regarding a merger with the Netflix article can be held here.

Please refer to Talk:Netflix#Proposal_to_split_"Netflix_India"_into_a_separate_article.

Netflix India is differently notable from Netflix in several ways. It cannot adequately serve as a mere section in the main Netflix article, as that would restrict it to a summary only. It deserves a separate, detailed article. Mohit Dokania (talk) 15:59, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

What sources show Netflix India passes WP:NCORP separately from Netflix? Also, for future reference, a proposal to split is only relevant if there is content in the existing article that you want to move into a separate article. There was no Netflix India content in the Netflix article - this is an entirely new draft as far as I can tell - so a split did not take place. If notability cannot be shown for Netflix India, adding content to Netflix may be appropriate. purringmaggot (talk) 02:59, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
It has distinct corporate subsidiary status (Netflix Entertainment Services India LLP), history, achievements, unique localization strategies (mobile-only plans, local pricing), significant regulatory/censorship history in India, controversies, competition with regional players and extensive independent coverage in major news outlets, Mohit Dokania (talk) 03:43, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Notability is not determined by features of the subject, but if the subject has been written about, in depth, in reliable, independent secondary sources. WP:NCORP is one of the stricter subject notability guidelines and requires in-depth analysis totally independent from the company itself, since for most companies press releases and advertorials abound. Right now most of the sourcing is about WP:CORPTRIV like the subscription prices. If the company, as you said, has unique achievements, regulatory history and controversies, the appropriate depth of sourcing should be easy to find. purringmaggot (talk) 04:13, 8 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Agree with @Purring maggot. I didn't see any independent notability. A subsidiary is just a legal entity, we don't write about everyone who files paperwork to form a company if they don't pass WP:NCORP. Avgeekamfot (talk) 20:00, 11 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
