Reliance Trends is an Indian apparel and fashion accessories specialty retail chain. Founded in 2007, it operates as a subsidiary under Reliance Retail, the retail arm of the multinational conglomerate Reliance Industries. It is the largest fashion retail chain in India by store count and footprint location.[1]
History
[edit]Reliance Trends launched its first brick-and-mortar storefront in late 2007 to capture the rapidly growing formal and casual western-wear consumer segment in urban India.[2] Initially targeted at Tier-1 cities, the company expanded its logistics network aggressively into Tier-2 and Tier-3 geographic locations, offering low-cost fast-fashion clothing models intended to appeal to a broad consumer demographic.[3]
In 2015, Performax—an internal sportswear and athletic sub-brand developed by Reliance Trends—became the official kit apparel sponsor for the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket franchise, the Mumbai Indians.[4]
Operations and Business Model
[edit]The business model utilizes a centralized design and manufacturing framework to sell private labels alongside national and international brands. Private label merchandise accounts for roughly 60 percent of the overall retail revenue generated by the chain.[5]
The physical retail outlets range between 8,000 to 24,000 square feet in area.[3] In addition to traditional retail stores, the network serves consumers digitally through the horizontal ecommerce platform AJIO via the integrated "AJIO Trends" framework.[1]
In-house Brands
[edit]Reliance Trends manages a portfolio of internal private label fashion brands:
- Avaasa Mix n Match – Women's Indian ethnic wear
- Rio – Contemporary western wear for young women
- Fig – Classic corporate fashion apparel for working women
- Network – Formal clothing selections for men
- Netplay – Casual smart western-wear choices for men
- Performax – Athletic, sportswear, and technical exercise gear[4]
Corporate Governance
[edit]The parent company, Reliance Retail, reported a consolidated gross revenue of ₹3,70,026 crores for the fiscal year 2025–26, with the fashion division serving as a significant driver of overall physical transactions across its 20,000+ national locations.[1][6] Corporate leadership transitioned in 2022 when Mukesh Ambani stepped down, passing active executive chairperson oversight of the retail formats to Isha Ambani.[7]
