Tom Hale is an American business executive who is the current CEO of Oura, the company behind the Oura Ring.[1] Previously, he held leadership roles at SurveyMonkey, HomeAway[2] and Linden Lab, and held executive roles at Macromedia and Adobe.[3]

Early life and education

Hale was born to Linda Locke Howe and Edward Everett Hale IV, who were married[4] in Bristol, Rhode Island. He attended The Thacher School, where he studied from 1984 to 1986. Following his time at Thacher, he attended Harvard University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree between 1986 and 1990.[5]

Career

Hale began his tech career in 1994 at Fauve Software until the company's acquisition by Macromedia in 1995. At Macromedia, he held multiple roles, overseeing product launches like Studio MX and strategic acquisitions, including Allaire.[3] After Adobe acquired Macromedia in 2005,[6] Hale became SVP, overseeing the redesign of Acrobat 8.[3]

In 2010 to 2017, he was chief product officer and later COO at HomeAway/VRBO, before the company's sale to Expedia.[7]

From 2017 to 2023, Hale was president at SurveyMonkey, guiding it through an IPO[8] and a rebrand to Momentive. In 2023, he became CEO of Oura.[9]

In March 2025, Hale was the featured guest on Fortune's CEO Daily podcast to talk about how sleep affects high-level performance.[10]

In May 2025, Hale was interviewed on Fox Business where he explained how the Ōura ring provides health information for the SpaceX FRAM2 mission on The Claman Countdown.[11]

In June 2025, Hale was interviewed on CNBC as part of their Disruptor 50 series featuring companies leading AI breakthroughs.[12]

Also in June 2025, Hale was on the cover of Time for their 100 Most Influential Companies[13] issue, and featured in the article How Oura Keeps Pushing Smart Ring Tech Forward.[14]
