Sumit Yadav is an Indian civil engineering student, and student leader at IIIT Bombay. He is a Bachelor of Technology student in Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.[1]

Yadav has been involved in student leadership and accessibility-related activities at IIT Bombay. He has served as Institute Secretary, Hostel Affairs for tenure of 2025-26 and as a student representative through the institute's PwD Cell and Hospital & Health Advisory Committee.[2]

Early Life and Education

Yadav is from Surhurpur village in Jaunpur district, Uttar Pradesh.[2]

He attended Central Hindu Boys School, Banaras Hindu University, and later joined IIT Bombay to study civil engineering. His educational journey and experience as an IIT Bombay student were profiled by The Indian Express in 2024.[1]

Para-Athletics

Yadav has competed in para-athletics, including throwing and jumping events.

During the 7th Uttar Pradesh State Para Athletics Championship in 2023, he won a gold medal in the long jump. At the 12th National Junior & Sub-Junior Para Athletics Championship in 2023, he won silver medals in the long jump and javelin throw in the under-19 boys' category. These results were reported in the annual report of the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar.[3]

In 2025, Yadav won a silver medal in Engineering Designing at the West Zone Regional Abilympics in Mumbai. The competition was organised for persons with disabilities and included participants from several western Indian states.[4]

Student Leadership

Yadav has held several student leadership positions at IIT Bombay. He served as Institute Secretary, Hostel Affairs, and acted as General Secretary of Hostels 1, 9 and 16.[2]

He has also represented students through the IIT Bombay PwD Cell and Hospital & Health Advisory Committee.[2]

In October 2025, Yadav was listed by IIT Bombay's student affairs platform as Institute Secretary, Hostel Affairs and a student representative of the PwD Cell in connection with the institute's Samanvay event, an event focused on students with disabilities.[5]

In 2026, he was listed as a candidate for General Secretary, Hostel Affairs, in IIT Bombay's General Elections 2026.[6]

Accessibility and Disability Initiatives

Yadav has been involved in accessibility-related activities at IIT Bombay. India Today reported that he represented students through the institute's PwD Student Cell and worked on initiatives intended to improve access to information and opportunities for persons with disabilities.[2]InfoAbility

Yadav founded InfoAbility, an information platform focused on scholarships, employment opportunities, internships and government schemes for persons with disabilities. India Today described the initiative as one of the projects closest to him during his time at IIT Bombay.[2]

Yadav completed an internship as an Operations Intern at Godrej Properties, where he worked while studying civil engineering at IIT Bombay. His internship and student leadership activities were mentioned in an India Today profile published in August 2026.[2]

In August 2026, India Today published a feature on his experience as a final-year civil engineering student at IIT Bombay, covering his campus life, student leadership, accessibility work and InfoAbility initiative.[2]

In September 2026, India Today also quoted Yadav in coverage concerning anti-bias advisories issued at IIT Bombay during 2023 and 2024. At the time, Yadav was serving as Institute Secretary, Hostel Affairs.[7]
