Solace Health is a healthtech platform that matches patients with healthcare advocates who help them navigate the U.S. healthcare system. Established in 2022, the privately held company is based in Redwood City, California.
History
[edit]Jeremy Gurewitz and Sara Sargent co-founded Solace Health in 2022 after Gurewitz watched his mother struggle to navigate the healthcare system while she battled pancreatic cancer.[1] His mother had difficulty even though she was a radiologist with an understanding of the medical system[2] who led a women's imaging center in Long Island, New York.[3]
Patients initially paid for Solace services out-of-pocket.[3] This changed in 2024 when Medicare started covering patient advocacy services for chronic and complicated health conditions.[3][4] Gurewitz told the Wall Street Journal that investor interest increased once patient advocacy was covered by Medicare.[3] In April 2025, Solace announced a $60 million Series B, which was twice the amount they intended to raise.[3] In February 2026, Business Insider reported that the need for help navigating the U.S. medical system had propelled the company to a $1 billion valuation.[4]
In 2026, Solace announced additional insurance coverage from major health plans, including United Healthcare and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.[2] Fierce Healthcare quoted Gurewitz that this expanded coverage extended the opportunity for patient advocacy to millions of Americans.[2] The company also partnered with Disabled American Veterans (DAV)[5] and the American Legion[6] to help U.S. military veterans navigate healthcare. They announced a partnership with Walmart’s Better Care Services in September 2026.[7]
Advocacy services
[edit]Solace advocates include registered nurses and other healthcare professionals who, according to a 2026 press release have 16 years of experience on average.[7] When Medicare reimburses advocates, Solace receives a share in exchange for use of its platform.[4] In early 2026, Solace had more than 2,000 participating advocates[4] providing services to more than 20,000 patients each month.[2]
Advocate services include helping clients understand medical bills and treatment plans,[4] as well as finding physicians, scheduling appointments,[3] and coordinating care across multiple providers.[8] Advocates can also go to appointments with patients, either virtually or in person.[3] Gurewitz told MedCity News in 2026 that Solace advocates specialize in doing the work for patients, rather than simply providing advice on what patients should do.[8]
Patients interact with advocates through text and phone calls as well as video calls embedded in the Solace platform.[8] Solace's proprietary electronic health records system assembles a patient's health history.[4] The platform also handles Medicare billing.[4] Gurewitz informed Founder Brew in a 2026 interview that while the Solace platform incorporates AI to help advocates do their jobs, many aspects of the U.S. healthcare system cannot be completed by AI and still require human interaction.[1]
