Skyline Communications NV is a Belgian software company that develops network management and orchestration (NMS/OSS) solutions. Headquartered in Izegem, Belgium, the company is primarily known for developing DataMiner, a platform used for cross-vendor integration in the telecommunications, broadcast, and satellite industries.[2][3]
History
[edit]Skyline Communications was founded in 1985 by Leonard Vandenberghe as a distributor of telecommunications hardware. In 2000, the company transitioned from hardware distribution to software development, beginning the design of its vendor-independent NMS platform, DataMiner.[2]
In 2012, the company received the "Export Lion" award from Flanders Investment and Trade for its expansion into international markets.[4] In 2017, Skyline Communications became the first company to win the award for a second time, this time in the category for large companies.[5][6]
Leadership of the company passed to the founder's three sons—Ben, Bert, and Frederik Vandenberghe—following Leonard Vandenberghe's retirement in 2015.[7]
In 2023, the company became a subject of national media discussion in Belgium when its leadership returned its 2017 Export Lion award to the Flemish Government. The act was a formal protest against the "Ventilus" high-voltage power line project, which the company argued would negatively impact the Izegem region's business environment and the health of its employees.[8][9][10]
Product
[edit]The company's main software platform is DataMiner. It is categorized as a multi-vendor network management and orchestration system. The platform aggregates data from hardware and software components from different manufacturers into a single management interface, using a driver-based architecture to enable interoperability.[11][12]
