Sindhu is a village in Nokha tehsil of Bikaner district in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The 2011 Census of India records Sindhu under village location code 069601.[1]

According to the 2011 Census, the village had a population of 2,247 living in 339 households. Sindhu covers a geographical area of approximately 2,447 hectares (24.47 km²).[2]

Sindhu is associated administratively with the Morkhana Gram Panchayat. A watershed-development report of the Government of Rajasthan lists Sindhu among the villages covered under Morkhana Gram Panchayat.[3]

Geography and administration

Sindhu lies within Nokha tehsil in Bikaner district. The Census records place the village about 25 km from the sub-district headquarters at Nokha and about 50 km from Bikaner, the district headquarters.[4]

The village forms part of the rural local-government system administered through the Panchayati Raj institutions. Government records have listed Sindhu under Morkhana Gram Panchayat.[3]

Demographics

At the 2011 Census of India, Sindhu had a total population of 2,247, comprising 1,206 males and 1,041 females. There were 339 households in the village.[2]

The Census recorded 427 children in the 0–6 age group. A total of 908 residents were recorded as literate, including 601 males and 307 females.[2]

The Scheduled Caste population was 330 and the Scheduled Tribe population was 10 in the 2011 Census.[2]

Land use and infrastructure

The village has a total geographical area of about 2,447 hectares. Census-era village-directory data recorded approximately 1,785 hectares as net area sown.[4]

The 2011 village records listed a government primary school and a government middle school within Sindhu. They also recorded all-weather and paved-road connectivity, an Anganwadi centre and access to the Public Distribution System.[4]

People associated with the village

Local biographical sources identify social worker and writer Arjun Panchariya Sindhu as being from the Sindhu–Morkhana area of Bikaner district.[5]

Separate news reports in 2024 reported the appointment of Panchariya as the Bikaner district president of the youth wing of the Rashtriya Parshuram Sena Sangh.[6][7]
