Roni Chadash (born October 21, 1990) is an Israeli choreographer and dancer.

Biography

Born in 1990, she grew up in Kfar Shmaryahu and graduated with honors from the dance department at Hayovel High School in Herzliya. In 2009, she enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces and served in Unit 8200.

Career

Following her military service, Chadash studied for one year in the dancers' training workshop of the Vertigo Dance Company, followed by one year in the dancers' training workshop in Ga'aton. In 2015, Chadash created her first video work, Spineless, as well as her first solo for the stage, Ani-Ma, as part of the Shades in Dance Festival.

Since 2015, Chadash has worked as an independent choreographer. Her first stage work, Ani-Ma, premiered at the 2015 Shades in Dance Festival, where it won the Jury Prize. Following that, she created the solo Gufi as part of the Tel Aviv Dance Festival. Both solos won numerous awards at various competitions around the world and were invited to perform in Israel and abroad.

In 2018, she began collaborating with other dancers, creating works such as Victims & Images, Chapters of Joy, Body #1, and other productions. Her works have been performed in Israel at festivals[1] such as Curtain Up ,[2] Zirat Mahol, Shades in Dance, and Tel Aviv Dance. Some of these works were invited to perform in Germany, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Peru, New York, Greece,[3] Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia, Serbia, Switzerland, Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Poland, Czech Republic, England, and Lithuania.

Chadash has also been invited to conduct workshops in Italy, Portugal, Austria, Slovakia, Greece, and Belgium. Following the success of her works, they received support through residencies in Israel and abroad, including in the Czech Republic, Greece, Denmark, Hungary, Thailand, and Spain.

In 2021, she was invited to create for TANZ KASSEL at Staatstheater Kassel in Germany.

In 2023–2024, Chadash created perFORMing LOVE, a work for eight dancers created for the Curtain Up Festival. In 2024, she created Lots of Movements, a work for seven dancers for the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern in Germany. In 2025–2026, she created Separations for the Batsheva Ensemble, and in 2025, she returned to her earlier work Victims & Images, further developing it as Victims & Images: Vol 2.

Her works have also received support from the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Sport, the Yehoshua Rabinovich Foundation, Mifal HaPayis,the Independent Creators Fund, MART, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, the Israeli Choreographers Association, and the Suzanne Dellal Centre.

Alongside her creations, Chadash teaches contemporary dance and repertoire in schools in Israel and abroad, and collaborates with various institutions, including the dance department at Ironi Alef High School for the Arts in Tel Aviv, the Bikurei Ha'Itim Dancers Training Program, the Ga'aton Dancers Training Workshop, the Vertigo Dancers Training Workshop, Thelma Yellin, Studio Naim, HaKvutza, Research, Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, Austria, NOD in Turin, Italy, the Jerusalem Academy High School, the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, Practice by Machol Shalem, and Kibbutzim College.

As a professional dancer, Chadash collaborated with choreographers in Israel and abroad, including Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor, Maya Brinner, Odelya Kuperberg, Louise Marfaing, Elias Lazaridis, and Satoshi Kudo. In her work as a choreographer, she was responsible for the choreography in the music video Da by singer Shai Tsabari.

In 2020, she joined the Israeli Choreographers Association.[4]

Ani-Ma

Roni's first solo for the stage was presented at the Shades in Dance Festival and won the Jury Prize.[5] The solo won numerous prizes around the world (MASDANZA, SOLODUO, FKM, BCDC)[6] and was also invited to perform at theaters and festivals in Germany, Belgium, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Serbia, Hungary, Romania, New York, and Poland.[7]

Gufi

The second solo for the stage was presented at the 2016 Tel Aviv Dance Festival. The solo also received recognition around the world and won the Jury Prize at the MASDANZA Festival in the Canary Islands. Throughout the solo, Roni dances with her head dropped backward and unseen by the audience, creating an illusion and transforming the body from human into creature-like/material form while raising questions about the autonomy each person has over their body, as women and as dancers.[8]

The solo was invited to perform in the Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Peru, New York, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia, England, Thailand, and Lithuania.

Victims & Images

The duet was presented as part of Curtain Up 2018 together with dancer Carmel Ben Asher,[9] under the artistic direction of Itzik Galili and Mate Moray.[10] The duet examines the way dancers sacrifice their bodies for the sake of image/entertainment/aesthetics and raises questions and criticism concerning their love/hate relationship with the audience.[11]

Chapters of Joy

A work for five dancers presented at Curtain Up 2020[13] under the artistic direction of Dana Ruttenberg and Oded Graf. The work celebrates the living body in all its liveliness, vitality, and grace, and is performed to the third English Suite by Bach, in an attempt to breathe new life into it.[14]

Body #1

A duet for Maya Schwartz and Ido Barak that was independently presented at Habait Theatre in 2020. The duet deals with a simple physical limitation and requires the dancers to remain connected to one another at the pelvis throughout most of the work.[15] The duet was invited to perform in Croatia, Greece, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, and Slovakia.[16]

The work was created for TANZ KASSEL, the new company of Staatstheater Kassel, in 2021. A work for eight dancers that constructs and deconstructs clichéd images of love and intimacy.

Lots of Movements

A work for seven dancers, created for the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern under the direction of Luisa Sanchez Escanero. The work premiered on April 19, 2024.

perFORMing LOVE

A work for eight dancers, presented as part of the 2023–2024 Curtain Up Festival. The work explores the complexities of how love, intimacy, and romance are represented in our society, and how these concepts are imprinted on our bodies.

A work for the dancers of the Batsheva Ensemble, 2025–2026 season. In Separations, Chadash examines the act of separation and the mechanisms of separation that also operate within the social sphere. Through a physical language that fragments the body and allows each part to act independently, the work explores the tension between the private and social body, examining how definitions, classifications, and labels organize reality while simultaneously reducing and fragmenting it.

Victims & Images: Vol 2

A work for two dancers that further develops the duet Victims & Images, which premiered at the 2018 Curtain UpFestival, performed by Roni Chadash and Carmel Ben Asher. In the new version, Chadash returned to the work with dancers Shira Ben Uriel and Romi Lahav, seeking to revisit and expand on the themes explored in the original piece. The work explores the relationship between the performing body and the images it is asked to serve. It examines how cultural expectations and images, particularly those associated with femininity, are inscribed on the body, addressing the tension between autonomy and representation and the possibility of existing beyond the images embedded in the body.
