Roger Kumar is an Indian mechanical engineer and entrepreneur, known as the founder and managing director of CASE Group (Composite Aqua Systems and Equipments Pvt. Ltd.), a Faridabad-based engineering company that manufactures coal gasifiers and industrial equipment.[1][2] He is also Co-Chairman of the Gasification Technologies and Research Council of India (GTRC-India), a national industry platform for gasification technology.[3]
Early life and education
[edit]Kumar graduated in mechanical engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra in 1986.[4] He serves on the institute's Alumni Endowment Board.[5]
Career
[edit]Kumar founded CASE Group in January 1993.[6] The company manufactures coal gasifiers designed for high-ash Indian coal, and has supplied gasification systems to industries including steel, chemicals, and fertilizers, enabling them to reduce dependence on imported fuels such as furnace oil, LPG, and natural gas.[7] CASE Group also manufactures cooling towers and air pollution control equipment, and exports its products to several African countries.[6] Under Kumar's leadership, the company has expanded into emerging clean-energy areas including green hydrogen, green ammonia, and carbon-capture-ready industrial solutions.[7]
Industry leadership
[edit]Kumar serves as Co-Chairman[8] of the Gasification Technologies and Research Council of India (GTRC-India), a national industry platform established under the Mission Energy Foundation to advance gasification technologies across coal, lignite, biomass, waste-to-energy, and hydrogen sectors.[3] The governing board includes former senior government officials and industry leaders from Coal India Limited, BHEL, Reliance Industries, Adani Group, and GAIL, as well as academics from the Indian Institute of Science and IIT Bombay.[3] Kumar has been cited as an expert on coal gasification policy in India by major publications. In The Hindu Business Line, he was quoted on the need for technology transfer from China, which has six decades of experience in commercial coal gasification, to support India's National Coal Gasification Mission.[2] In The Economic Times, he advocated for assured offtake mechanisms to support coal gasification projects under the government's Rs 37,500 crore scheme.[9]
Recognition
[edit]In July 2026, Kumar was conferred the "India's Iconic Brand & Leader 2026" recognition at The Next Economy Forum, held at the House of Lords, UK Parliament, in London.[1] The forum, organized by Brand Vista Consulting, brought together business leaders, policymakers, and innovators to discuss the future of business, technology, and sustainable economic growth.[1]
Kumar is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (FIE) and a Certified Independent Director accredited by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India.[4] He serves as International President of the World Human Rights Protection Commission.[4]
