From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

{{subst:AfC submission/coil$1}}

Quentin Gutierrez is an American stand-up comedian and actor from East Los Angeles. He performed at The Comedy Store, where he is listed as a paid regular, and organized a recurring showcase for Latino comedians at the club. As an actor, he appeared in Repo Man (1984), The Killing Zone (1991), and the television soap opera General Hospital. His work in comedy and automobile repossession was the subject of a 2010 profile in Los Angeles magazine.[1][2][3]

Early life and other work

[edit]

Gutierrez grew up in East Los Angeles and worked in his father's automobile shop. He later entered the automobile-repossession business.[1]

Comedy career

[edit]

Gutierrez became associated with the Comedy Store in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Los Angeles reported that he initially chauffeured comedians for club owner Mitzi Shore and later produced and hosted a variety show at the venue, performed stand-up comedy, and appeared in sketches.[1]

In March 1992, the Swedish newspaper supplement Expressen Söndag published a profile of Gutierrez as a stand-up comedian.[4]

By early 1993, Gutierrez was hosting and organizing Sunday-night showcases for developing Latino comedians in the Comedy Store's Belly Room. A January 1993 La Opinión feature described Gutierrez presenting Latino de la Noche and reported that the project had brought together approximately 30 comedians.[5] The Los Angeles Times subsequently identified him as the host and organizer of the Sunday showcases. Comedy Store owner Mitzi Shore said that she made the room available to Gutierrez because she believed in nurturing young comedians.[6]In April 1993, the California Secretary of State registered Latino de la Noche to Gutierrez as a service mark for Latin stand-up comedy services.[7]

In April 1993, Drama-Logue covered Gutierrez and his plans for a multi-ethnic comedy showcase.[8]

Acting

[edit]

Gutierrez appeared as a tow-truck driver in Alex Cox's 1984 film Repo Man.[3] The 2010 Los Angeles profile reported that he also supplied vehicles to the production and appeared in the television soap opera General Hospital.[1] He later played Pablo in the 1991 film The Killing Zone.[1]
