Comment: Your prompts are cut out of the transcript but it is clear from the draft that ChatGPT included text that you did not write yourself, which is not allowed per WP:LLM. Please remove all LLM-generated text; ideally you should start over by removing all text from the draft (without removing any review templates). We do not necessarily expect you to write perfect or polished English. If you need general advice or formatting help, see Help:Your first article and Help:Referencing for beginners. Primordial Black is a Tunisian extreme metal band from Tunis, formed in 2022 by vocalist and guitarist Yasser Mahammedi Bouzina. The band's music has been described as a combination of black metal, death metal and other extreme metal styles, incorporating atmospheric, industrial and experimental elements.[1][2]
History
[edit]Formation and Monas Hieroglyphica
[edit]Primordial Black was formed in 2022 in Tunis by Yasser Mahammedi Bouzina. In an interview with MetalUniverse, Yasser stated that the project was initially conceived as a means of expressing anger and resentment through music, with early influences including the horror fiction of H. P. Lovecraft, Celtic Frost and the writings of John Dee.[3]
The band's debut release, the four-track EP Monas Hieroglyphica, was released on 12 January 2024 through the French label M&O Music.[4][5]
The EP consists of four tracks: "Atrocity Guides", "The Worm That Gnaws at Night", "Only Death Is Real" and "Monas Hieroglyphica".[6] Reviews characterized the release as a mixture of blackened death metal and other extreme metal styles. United Rock Nations described the EP as incorporating elements associated with black and death metal, while Africa.Rocks later characterized it as a mixture of black, doom, thrash and death metal.[7][8]
The original recording lineup consisted of Yasser Mahammedi Bouzina on vocals, guitars and programming, Walid Chaaben on lead guitar, Dalii Gharsellaouii on bass and backing vocals, and Mohamed Ben Hadida on drums.[9]
Dark Matter Manifesto
[edit]Primordial Black's debut studio album, Dark Matter Manifesto, was released on 2 May 2025 through Darkside Records.[10]
The album contains seven tracks and has a running time of approximately 30 minutes. Its lineup includes Yasser Mahammedi Bouzina on vocals, guitars and programming and Chaaben on guitars and bass, with Selim Bouladi performing drums.[11]
Dark Matter Manifesto features guest vocals by Sakis Tolis of the Greek extreme metal band Rotting Christ on "Sowing Discord" and by multidisciplinary artist Maxime Taccardi on "Din of Thy Celestial Birds".[12]
The album received coverage from several metal publications. VerdamMnis Magazine described the band's sound as a combination of black and death metal, while Thrashocore discussed the influence of Greek black metal and the contributions of Tolis and Taccardi.[13][14]
Mexican metal publication MetalPedia subsequently named Dark Matter Manifesto its Album of the Year, according to coverage of the band published in 2026.[15]
Heterotopia
[edit]Primordial Black's second studio album, Heterotopia, was released on 15 May 2026.[16][17]
The album consists of eight tracks: "Caos Guidato", "Ruines Suspendues", "Heterotopia", "Mater Suspiriorum", "Immaculate", "Begotten", "Gorrister" and "Le Horla".[18]
The recording features Yasser Mahammedi Bouzina on vocals and rhythm guitars, Chaaben on lead guitars, Walter Rehouma on bass and Nikola Dušmanić on drums. The album also features guest musicians including bassist Steve Di Giorgio, guitarist Karim Bouazra, guitarist Gianluca Morelli, saxophonist Khairi Doudech, vocalist Camillia Bayazi and vocalist Mehdi Beltaief.[19]
The album was reviewed by a number of metal publications. Metal Actus described it as combining black metal with influences from other forms of extreme and symphonic metal, while Thrashocore gave the album an 8/10 rating and described it as a development of the band's earlier material.[20][21]
Rock Era Magazine interviewed Bouzina in June 2026 about the album's production and the band's development since Dark Matter Manifesto.[22]
Musical style and themes
[edit]Primordial Black has been variously described as blackened death metal, black metal and avant-garde metal. Reviews of the band's releases have also identified elements of doom metal, thrash metal, heavy metal, industrial music and atmospheric extreme metal.[23][24]
Mahammedi Bouzina has described Lovecraftian horror, Celtic Frost and the writings of John Dee as influences on the band's early musical conception.[25]
The band's lyrics and concepts have addressed existential themes, psychological fragmentation, mortality, religious and philosophical imagery, and cosmic or metaphysical subjects. Reviews of Dark Matter Manifesto and Heterotopia have noted the band's use of atmospheric and cinematic elements alongside extreme-metal instrumentation.[26][27]
