Konstantin Smolyar, known professionally as Plohoyparen (stylised PLOHOYPAREN; Russian: Плохой парень, "bad guy"), is a Russian rapper and Twitch streamer. He has released five albums since 2018 and belongs to the Russian streaming collective Хазяева. In 2023 his Twitch channel was blocked after Roskomnadzor, the Russian communications and media regulator, added it to Russia's registry of prohibited websites over the promotion of online casinos.[1]

Early life

[edit]

Smolyar grew up in Ivanteevka, Moscow Oblast, in a family of modest means. He began working at 13 and started making music around the same time, using whatever equipment he could put together, and put out his first finished track in 2016.[2] His first stage name meant "good guy"; he later flipped it to Plohoyparen.[3]

Music

[edit]

Smolyar released Hello My Name in 2018. Планеты ("Planets") followed in 2019, with the Russian rappers Платина (Platina), OG Buda and Lil Krystalll guesting.[4]

In July 2021 he released Где плохой поц? (roughly "Where is the bad guy?"), which the Russian music publication The Flow described as ranging from Detroit rap and tracks in the spirit of Playboi Carti to lo-fi. Its guests included Mayot, White Punk, Платина, Blago White, Lil Morty, Evelone and JesusAVGN.[4] He put out two more albums that year, Плохой поц and Грязный колдун ("Dirty Sorcerer").[5]

In 2023 he recorded "Прибыль" ("Profit") with the Russian rappers Toxi$ and XTREME, and "Забыл цифры" ("Forgot the Numbers") with Toxi$.[5]

In 2025 he recorded two singles with Платина, "Жучий клубный" and "Филки" (slang for "cash"). The "Филки" video was shot at night in New York City.[6] The Flow compared the video for his 2026 single "Провод" ("Wire") to the films of David Lynch.[7] He released "Метель" ("Blizzard") in July 2026. Its credits list a video team that included the American director Joy Divizn.[8]

Streaming

[edit]

Smolyar streams on Twitch and is a member of the Хазяева collective, a group of Russian streamers known for in-real-life broadcasts. The name is a deliberate misspelling of the Russian word for "the owners". The collective was started in early 2022 by Paradeev1ch, with Smolyar reported as the first to join; its other members include Koreshzy, Kuertov, Frame Tamer, Exile and Danila_Gorilla.[9][2] He had been watching their streams and approached them himself, and within the group he is described as its main rapper.[2][9]

In April 2023 Roskomnadzor added the accounts of several streamers to Russia's registry of prohibited websites over unlawful promotion of online casinos, and Twitch blocked the channels of Smolyar, Egor Kreed and Buster.[1] Smolyar subsequently said that joint streams with Хазяева would probably not take place again, while adding that a ban did not end friendships.[10]

Censorship and removal from Russian platforms

[edit]

In March 2026, after Russia tightened its restrictions on references to drugs in music, Smolyar took almost all of his albums off Russian streaming services while leaving them available elsewhere.[11] On 3 March he reissued "Таблетка" as a rewritten song about a meat cutlet.[11][12] He said at the time that "you would have to be out of your mind to listen to music in the state the platforms are in now".[12] The Flow grouped him with the Russian rappers who answered the new rules by withdrawing or rewriting their work rather than complying.[12]
