History

[edit]
Pedrali headquarters in Mornico al Serio

Pedrali was founded in 1963 by Mario Pedrali, who established a small workshop specialising in metal products in Palazzolo sull'Oglio.[1] According to an article published by Domus, the manufacturer subsequently expanded its activities in the seating and furniture sector, progressively increasing its production and reference markets.[1]

The company's main production operations were later transferred to Mornico al Serio, in the Province of Bergamo. Leadership subsequently passed to the second generation of the Pedrali family, Monica and Giuseppe Pedrali.[1][6]

In 2005, the company opened a wooden furniture manufactory facility in Manzano, located in the heart of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Chair District.[3] In 2006, the manufacturer's headquarters were transferred to Mornico al Serio.[1]

In 2023, marking the 60th anniversary of the manufacturer's foundation, Pedrali inaugurated the Pedrali Pavilion, designed by AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi. The pavilion hosted the exhibition Pedrali60, we design a better future, curated by Luca Molinari Studio.[7][8][9]

Locations and manufacturing facilities

[edit]

Pedrali is headquartered in Mornico al Serio, in the Province of Bergamo, and operates a wooden furniture manufacturing facility in Manzano, in the Province of Udine.[2][3]

In 2016, Fili d'erba, an automated warehouse designed by CZA – Cino Zucchi Architetti, was inaugurated at Pedrali's headquarters in Mornico al Serio.[10] The project received a Special Mention at the 2016 Green Company Award.[11]

Production and collaborations

[edit]

Pedrali produces seating, tables, complements and lighting. The products are manufactured in a variety of materials, including metal, wood, plastic materials and upholstery.[1][2]

The manufacturer has collaborated with designers and design studios active in the furniture and industrial design sectors, including Odo Fioravanti, Jorge Pensi Design Studio, Cazzaniga Mandelli Pagliarulo and Patrick Jouin.[7][12]

Among the manufacturer's collections are Frida, designed by Odo Fioravanti,[4] Nolita, designed by Cazzaniga Mandelli Pagliarulo,[13][14] and Ester, designed by Patrick Jouin.[12]

The Ester collection has also been featured in restaurant projects associated with chef Alain Ducasse.[15]

Frida chair and the Compasso d'Oro

[edit]

One of the manufacturer's products is the Frida chair, designed by Odo Fioravanti.[5] In 2011, the chair received the XXII ADI Compasso d'Oro Award for its "simple sculptural beauty".[4]

The chair is part of the collection of the ADI Design Museum, which showcases projects awarded the Compasso d'Oro.[4]

Exhibitions and cultural initiatives

[edit]

In 2023, the exhibition Pedrali60, we design a better future documented the manufacturer's history through archival materials, prototypes, catalogues, graphic materials and documents relating to the development of its production.[7][9]

The exhibition was held in the Pedrali Pavilion, designed by AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi, at the manufacturer's Mornico al Serio headquarters.[8][16]

Environmental initiatives

[edit]

In 2020, the manufacturer introduced the Recycled grey collections, made using recycled plastic material.[17] In 2022, some of the manufacturer's products in recycled plastic material obtained ReMade in Italy certification.[18]

Pedrali has been calculating its Corporate Carbon Footprint assessment and, in 2025, published its first sustainability report, referring to the year 2024.[19]

In 2025, Pedrali was also included in the list of workplaces participating in the WHP Lombardy Network.[20]
