Obang is a village in the Gambela Region of western Ethiopia. It is located northwest of Gambela, the regional capital, near the border with South Sudan.
Geography
[edit]Obang lies in the western lowlands of Ethiopia within Gambela Region. The surrounding area consists primarily of low-elevation plains and seasonal wetlands associated with the Baro River basin.
History
[edit]Obang gained public attention following the 2012 Gambella bus attack. On 14 March 2012, armed attackers ambushed a passenger bus near the village, killing 19 people and injuring several others. Ethiopian authorities attributed the attack to armed insurgents operating in the region.[1]
