Muti Films (stylised as MUTI FILMS) is a South African film production company based in Cape Town, founded by Brazilian-born artist and filmmaker Guto Bussab.[1][2] Muti Films has been credited on feature films, short films, web series, music videos, television commercials, and branded-content, documentary and profile work.[1]
History
[edit]Muti Films was launched in 1998 by Guto Bussab.[1] Bussab was named among the curators for World Design Capital 2014 in Cape Town. MUTI is the parent company of Muti Films, Muti Photography and TheMutiGallery.[2]
The company has a Library of Congress authority record under the name "Muti Films (Firm)".[3]
Productions
[edit]The German film reference service Filmdienst lists Muti Films as the production company for the 2008 South African film Gangster's Paradise, released in South Africa as Jerusalema.[4] The same listing names Guto Bussab among the film's producers.[4]
In 2017, News24 described Gaze as a web series by MutiFilms set in Cape Town's art world. The article credited the series as directed by Guto Bussab and Jared Ethan Blake, written by Blake, and produced by Shanna Freedman.[5]
The short film Keys, Money, Phone was credited by News24 to director Roger Young, with Shanna Freedman and Muti Films listed as producers. The article also reported that the film had won the Durban International Film Festival award for best South African short film.[6]
The official website for the feature film Love Runs Out credits the film as directed by Roger Young, produced by Shanna Freedman, executive produced by Guto Bussab, and produced by Muti Films.[7]
Muti Films has also been credited on music-video work. In 2016, GhanaWeb, republishing from Live FM Ghana, reported that the Guto Bussab-directed video for M.anifest's "Cupid's Crooked Bow" featuring Nomisupasta was shot in Accra by Muti Films.[8]
