Bearden's music primarily incorporates indie rock, alternative rock, and experimental music, with some works incorporating electronic, ambient, and downtempo elements. His work combines live instrumentation with digital production. He primarily plays guitar and bass, and also writes, sings, records, mixes, and produces music.

Since 2025, Bearden has primarily used REAPER as his digital audio workstation for recording, mixing, mastering, sound design, and music production.

Outside of music, Bearden works in filmmaking, video editing, voice acting, digital art, animation, game development, programming, and streaming. His technical interests include Pygame, Roblox Studio, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and W:ESP32 development.

Bearden is involved in the furry fandom and uses Leo, an anthropomorphic snow leopard, as his primary fursona.

Early life

[edit]

Bearden was born in Southington, Connecticut, in 2010. During his childhood, he was exposed to mainstream pop music through radio and other media, including artists such as Coldplay and Twenty One Pilots.

His father was an early influence on his musical interests and introduced him to rock and indie music. Among the music played for Bearden were instrumental versions of "Slow Motion" by Third Eye Blind, "Upward Over the Mountain" by Iron & Wine, and "Be Still My Heart" by The Postal Service.[1]

Bearden moved to Hudson, Massachusetts, during the summer of 2019.

His great-grandparents, Ronald "Ronnie" Lewbel and Phyllis Lewbel, also influenced his creative ambitions. Bearden has described them as encouraging him to pursue his creative interests.

Music

[edit]

Early music

[edit]

Bearden began experimenting with music production in 2021. His earliest known song was "A Very Dark Blue Sky", a chill 8-bit composition created with BeepBox. The original project was created on a school laptop and was subsequently lost.

Although the song received little attention, Bearden continued producing music primarily for his own enjoyment. This marked the beginning of his ongoing interest in music production.[2]

In 2022, he began posting music to Bandcamp and experimenting with OnlineSequencer. He later used BandLab during 2023 and 2024.[2]

In 2024, Bearden began incorporating more rock-oriented material into his music. In 2025, he transitioned to REAPER as his primary digital audio workstation.

By 2026, he was using REAPER for recording, arrangement, mixing, mastering, sound effects, and other aspects of music production.[2]

Musical development and style

[edit]

Bearden began learning guitar in 2021 through Guitars and Grooves in Hudson, Massachusetts, and later through the Rock Institute in Marlborough, Massachusetts. He subsequently began playing bass and incorporated it into his songwriting and band work.

He sings on his music and has described his vocal development as largely self-taught.[1]

Bearden does not consistently work within a single genre. His primary styles include indie rock, alternative rock, and experimental music, while individual recordings may incorporate electronic, ambient, or other influences.[2]

His cited musical influences include Radiohead, Failure, Fons The Bun, WHSPRS, and Sharksbarksss. Radiohead is among his most significant influences, and its 1995 album The Bends is one of Bearden's favorite albums.[2]

He has also cited musicians associated with the furry music community as influences, particularly Fons The Bun and WHSPRS.[2]

fifth forgotten

[edit]

Bearden currently releases music under the name fifth forgotten. The project serves as his primary solo musical identity and allows him to work across a broad range of genres and production styles.[2]

His work under the name incorporates alternative and indie rock alongside electronic and experimental production. Recordings frequently combine live instrumentation with synthesized sounds, MIDI sequencing, ambient textures, electronic sound design, and conventional rock instrumentation.[1]

Bearden records, mixes, and masters much of his own material and uses REAPER as his primary production environment.[1]

Rather than maintaining a fixed genre, Bearden has described experimentation and creative freedom as important aspects of the project.

BearSoup

[edit]

Before adopting the name fifth forgotten, Bearden produced music under the alias BearSoup, later stylized as BearSoup571.

The name was created with his father in 2020. Bearden subsequently used it for music and other online creative work during the early 2020s.

The BearSoup material was primarily electronic and digitally produced and represents an earlier period of Bearden's experimentation with music production. The project was active approximately from 2021 to 2023.[2]

Some BearSoup material remains scattered across different websites and online accounts.

Machines Still Bleed

[edit]

Machines Still Bleed was Bearden's first band. The group was formed in 2022, with Bearden serving as a vocalist, songwriter, guitarist, and frontman.[1]

The band's music incorporated alternative rock and other influences associated with Bearden's developing musical style. The group performed at multiple venues and events in Massachusetts.[1]

B-Sides is a rock band and musical project featuring Bearden as bassist, vocalist, songwriter, and producer.[2]

The group's sound is influenced by Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Strokes. Unlike Bearden's solo work, B-Sides primarily focuses on a band-oriented rock sound.[2]

All members contribute to songwriting.

The known lineup consists of:

  • Lucas Bearden — bass, vocals, songwriting, production
  • Natalie — vocals, songwriting
  • Jackson — guitar, songwriting
  • Bennett Ludwig — guitar, songwriting
  • Ariv — guitar, songwriting
  • Adam — drums, songwriting

During the summer of 2026, the group worked on a two-track release. The songs used the working titles "Summer Song" and "My Car", although the titles were not necessarily final.[2]

Bearden worked with musician and producer George Danahy during the recording and production of the project. Danahy, the frontman of the Lowell-based band The Ghouls, worked with Bearden on recording, mixing, mastering, and production techniques at the Rock Institute.[2]

Filmmaking

[edit]

Bearden began making films and videos around 2020 after obtaining his first inexpensive camera. His earliest filmmaking consisted primarily of informal horror films made with friends at Camp Resolute, a Boy Scout camp.[2]

His filmmaking later developed into more deliberate narrative and experimental projects. He has worked in directing, writing, cinematography, editing, sound design, music, and acting.[2]

Bearden has used a Canon EOS R50V borrowed from his school as one of his primary cameras. He also uses older digital cameras, including a Kodak camera.[2]

His editing and visual-production software includes CapCut Desktop and Blender. REAPER is used for music and sound effects.[2]

His filmmaking combines cinematography, editing, sound design, music, and narrative storytelling.[2]

Psychological horror

[edit]

Bearden is developing a psychological-horror film centered on a character experiencing borderline personality disorder and hallucinations.[2]

The project focuses on altered perception and psychological distress rather than relying exclusively on conventional horror elements. Bearden's interest in the subject developed alongside his study of abnormal psychology.[2]

The film is intended as a fictional narrative and is not presented as an autobiographical account.[2]

Digital art and character design

[edit]

Bearden works in digital art and character design, particularly in connection with furry characters and online creative communities.[2]

His artwork includes character designs, illustrations, album artwork, and visual material associated with his music and online identity.[2]

He has also experimented with animation and has used digital tools including Blender to develop animation skills.[2]

Furry fandom

[edit]

Bearden encountered furry-related media before becoming more actively involved in the furry fandom. Around 2018, he discovered Warrior Cats multi-animator projects (M.A.P.s) online and became interested in the animation and character communities surrounding the series.[2]

He subsequently participated in furry communities through Roblox furry groups, Discord communities, and other online platforms.[2]

Bearden became more actively involved in the furry fandom during the 2020s and has expressed interest in attending a furry convention.[2]

Fursonas

[edit]

Bearden's first known fursona was created in 2022. The character was a brown lynx wearing a beanie.[2]

In 2024, he created his current primary fursona, Leo, an anthropomorphic snow leopard. The character retained the general role of representing Bearden, while the species and design were changed from the earlier lynx character.[2]

Leo is Bearden's primary fursona and is intended to represent him.[2]

Leo is an anthropomorphic snow leopard generally depicted as tall and slim. His design includes long blue, wavy hair, black eyeliner, a red shirt, and a black collar with a bell. His clothing frequently incorporates grunge and alternative-fashion influences.[2]

Different versions of the character have used variations in hair color, including blue, maroon, and navy.[2]

Leo generally uses he/him pronouns, with he/they also acceptable.[2]

The character's name was taken from Bearden's late pet cat.[2]

Leo has been depicted by multiple artists, including _porksodaa.[2]
