Logan Kunz (born 25 May 2009) is a South African rugby union player who plays as a lock or flanker. He currently plays for the Knoxville Youth Rugby Club in the United States and has previously represented Framesby High School in South Africa. He is known by the nickname “The Diamond” for his powerful running style and strong defensive work.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Logan Kunz was born on 25 May 2009 in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), Eastern Cape, South Africa. He attended Framesby High School, one of the region’s prominent rugby schools.[2] At school level he was selected for the Eastern Province Elephants at the U13 Craven Week in both 2022 and 2023.[3][4]
Club career
[edit]After moving to the United States, Kunz attended Ooltewah High School. He later joined the Knoxville Youth Hounds pathway in Knoxville, Tennessee, and has also represented the Atlanta Youth Rugby Club in Georgia.
International and representative career
[edit]Kunz currently plays for the Knoxville Youth Rugby squad. He has previously featured for Atlanta Youth Rugby and has received interest from several top college programmes.
Playing style and physical profile
[edit]Standing at 1.90–1.92 m and weighing 87–90 kg, Kunz is a powerful and athletic forward known for his physical dominance, high work rate, and strong carrying ability. He combines size with mobility and has been praised by coaches for his intensity, toughness, and all-round skill set in both attack and defence.
Personal life
[edit]Logan Kunz is the nephew of former Springbok lock Lood de Jager and has been noted for a similar hard-running and physical style of play.[5]
