Labs Companies, Inc., branded as Labs, is an American artificial intelligence company headquartered in Santa Monica, California.[3][4] The company was founded in January 2025 by the husband-and-wife team of Duránd F. Davis Jr. and Maya Elzein “Elz” Davis.[1][5][6] It operates as the holding company for a group of specialized technology research laboratories, including Labsintelligence, its first core laboratory and the center of its artificial-intelligence research.[7][8] The company describes human enhancement as the wider purpose of its work and organizes research and product development across seven core laboratories.[9] Its products include LabsAI, the LabsAI Studio interface and the planned consumer application Yuhmmy.[10][11]

History

[edit]

Labs Companies was created in 2025 through a restructuring of LavLabs, a startup studio established in 2018. Labs became the parent holding company, while LavLabs continued as one of its seven core operating laboratories and is designated by the company as lab6.[12][2] The company was founded by the husband-and-wife team of Duránd F. Davis Jr. and Maya Elzein “Elz” Davis. Davis serves as executive chairman and chief executive officer, while Maya Davis serves as executive vice chairwoman, president and chief ecosystem strategy officer.[5][6] Investopedia traces the company's origins to 2018 and reported that it attained unicorn status in April 2025.[13]

An April 2025 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission identified LavLabs Inc. as a previous name of Labs Companies, Inc. and reported a completed $22.5 million offering of equity and debt securities to nine investors.[14][11] A second Form D filed in August 2025 reported a completed $35 million debt offering to one investor. The security was described in the filing as an “EDGE Note”, intended to convert into preferred shares at a later Series A financing.[15]

In January 2026, Investopedia placed Labs second in a ranking of the ten largest United States startups by year-end 2025 post-money valuation. It reported a valuation of $12.5 billion and $61.5 million in venture funding.[13] The CB Insights Global Unicorn Club lists Labs at a $12.5 billion valuation with an April 18, 2025 entry date.[16] Statista identified Labs as the most valuable United States artificial-intelligence unicorn established in 2025.[17]

Artificial intelligence research and products

[edit]

Labsintelligence describes its research as focused on artificial-intelligence systems that perceive, reason, coordinate and act. Its two principal research areas are speech-to-action, which concerns translating spoken intent into actions on a live interface, and orchestration intelligence—also called speech-to-orchestration—which concerns assigning and coordinating work among AI systems under real-time constraints.[8]

The laboratory's publications describe two model families: Actras, intended to convert speech and world state into actions, and Octras, intended to convert objectives and resources into orchestration policies. The same research program defines AI Orchs as executable coordination objects; the Interactive Programming Interface (IPI) for AI systems that act; the Orchestration Programming Interface (OPI) for AI systems that coordinate; and the Parallel Agent Protocol (PAP) for communication between AI agents. The lab presents these components, together with agentic file formats, runtime-governance mechanisms and the Interactive Intelligence Benchmark, as the foundation of an action-centered and orchestration-centered AI stack.[8]

LabsAI is Labsintelligence's public research-preview system and the implementation surface for this work.[8] LabsAI Studio is its voice-first interface. According to its website, the Studio supports interruptible spoken interaction, camera and screen sharing, multiple selectable voices, generated visual artifacts, persistent sessions and voice-controlled orchestration.[10] The company also provides a conversational interface called Chemí within LabsAI Studio.[18]

Organization and other activities

[edit]

Labs groups its research and product development into seven core laboratories: Labsintelligence, Labs Realities, Labs Blocks, Labs Crypto, LabsX, LavLabs and Labsintuition. Their stated areas encompass artificial intelligence, immersive computing, distributed systems, digital assets, experimental science, consumer experiences and hardware. The company associates the laboratories, respectively, with what it calls superintelligence, spatial intelligence, distributed intelligence, financial intelligence, science intelligence, experiential intelligence and physical intelligence.[9] Bloomberg describes the company's activities more broadly as including artificial intelligence, digital economies, immersive technologies, consumer internet services, social platforms and wearable technology.[3]

Ownership and corporate structure

[edit]

The company's public investor disclosure states that the founding Davis-Sivad family beneficially owns 96.80% of Labs and controls 96.40% of its voting power through super-voting Class B common stock, with each Class B share carrying 100 votes. It describes Class A and Class B common stock as the founders' holdings, Class C capital stock as an employee-equity pool, and Class D capital stock and preferred stock as the classes held by outside investors. The company reports 6.66 billion authorized shares and 2 billion outstanding shares; its stated $6.25 price per share corresponds to a $12.5 billion post-money valuation.[2] The same source lists Labs' seven core laboratories as divisions and lists Labs Investor Group and Labs Media Group among its wholly owned subsidiaries. It reports two employees as of 2026.[2]

Yuhmmy

[edit]

LavLabs develops Yuhmmy, a planned consumer social platform centered on conversations about food and drink. Pulse 2.0 described Yuhmmy App 2.0 as Labs' flagship consumer product and reported that it included audiovisual “Tasterooms” and short-form “Taste Reactions”. It also reported that the application incorporated artificial-intelligence systems from Labsintelligence and spatial-computing technology from Labs Realities.[11] The company's current website lists the application as opening in winter 2026.[19]

Labs Investor Group

[edit]

Labs Investor Group (LIG), also branded as Labs Investor, is the company's investment arm. Its website states that the unit is wholly owned by Labs Companies, Inc., had made no investments as of August 2026, and planned its first close in 2026 and debut in 2027.[20]

Labs Media Group

[edit]

Labs Media Group is the company's media and content subsidiary. The company describes its field as "Frontier Media", encompassing intelligence-native media, interactive experiences, AI-assisted storytelling, immersive media, autonomous creative systems and emerging forms of human communication. Its activities include publications, podcasts, productions and programs; the company has also announced a planned Frontier Media Fellows program for creators, researchers, technologists, journalists, filmmakers, designers and entrepreneurs.[21]

Labs Foundations

[edit]

Labs Foundations is the company's philanthropic and public-benefit arm. The company says it supports initiatives involving human potential, sustainability, science and technology education, and clean technology through foundations associated with each of the seven core laboratories; its website also describes several programs as upcoming.[22]
