Kristena Samuel (born c. 2011) is an American student author and student-athlete. She received regional recognition in 2023 as the Middle School Grand Prize winner of the La Plume Young Writers' Contest.
Education and writing
Samuel attends the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, in Miami, Florida, where she is part of the graduating class of 2029.
In 2023, while a student at Carrollton, Samuel submitted an original manuscript to the La Plume Young Writers' Contest, a regional literary competition based in South Florida. Her submission won the Grand Prize in the Middle School category. As a result of the win, her manuscript was independently published as a book titled The Sound of My Father's Boots. The story, which draws inspiration from her family's background in Sri Lanka, focuses on a young girl navigating her military father's deployment through letters and memories.
Her achievement as a young published author was featured in a short documentary project produced by her school's Digital Storytelling Studio.[1]
Athletics and rowing
Samuel is an active student-athlete, competing regionally in cross country and track and field events for her school. [1, 2]
In addition to running, she is a competitive junior rower training out of the Miami Rowing Club. As a versatile rower, she trains and competes in both sculling and sweep rowing disciplines, developing skills as both a sculler and a sweeper in team boat classes.
