Juli Endee, also known as Queen Juli Endee, is a Liberian singer-songwriter who has served as Liberia's honorary Culture Ambassador and as chief executive of the non-governmental organization Liberia Crusaders for Peace.[1][2]

Early life

[edit]

Endee was born to Liberian parents in Firestone, Margibi County. Her father is from Nimba County and her mother from Bong County.[3]

Career

[edit]

Endee is a singer-songwriter and the chief executive of Liberia Crusaders for Peace, a Liberian non-governmental organization.[1][4]

Culture Ambassador role

[edit]

Endee was designated Liberia's honorary Culture Ambassador in September 1995, a title conferred by then-interim President David Kpormakpor in recognition of her work encouraging Liberian artists in the diaspora to support peace efforts in their home country.[2] In December 2021, the National Traditional Council of Liberia, led by its chairman Chief Zanzan Karwor, publicly honored Endee at a ceremony in Monrovia for her contributions to sustaining peace and promoting Liberian cultural heritage.[1]

In August 2024, the government's appointment of Kekula Kamara (known as Malawala Balawala) as Liberia's Arts and Culture Ambassador prompted public debate over whether the new appointment replaced Endee in the role, with commentators noting that her honorary title had traditionally been considered non-transferable and revocable only for cause.[2] By January 2026, FrontPageAfrica was referring to Endee as Liberia's "former" Cultural Ambassador in its coverage of her public appearances.[4]

Public advocacy

[edit]

In January 2026, Endee spoke at the Diaspora Annual Return Peace and Reconciliation Dialogue in Congo Town, outside Monrovia, where she called for more equitable distribution of Liberia's resources, particularly to citizens in the country's leeward regions, and for greater investment in young people as a strategy for sustaining peace. She also spoke about the lasting psychological effects of the Liberian civil war on reconciliation between perpetrators and victims.[4]
