Jeffrey A. Weber is an American investor, film producer, actor, and competitive saber fencer. He served as President of York Capital Management and has been involved in fencing leadership, nonprofit organizations, and independent film production.
Early life and education
[edit]Weber began fencing as a child and later competed in saber fencing at the collegiate level. He fenced at Cornell University before continuing his involvement with fencing at Williams College, where he also served as a fencing coach. USA Fencing profiled Weber’s return to the sport after his investment career and described his athletic background and professional transition.[1]
Weber earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School.[2]
Investment career
[edit]After earning his MBA from Harvard Business School, Weber began his investment career at Chemical Venture Partners, the venture capital and leveraged buyout arm of Chemical Bank. Prior to Chemical Venture Partners, he worked in corporate finance at Drexel Burnham Lambert.[3]
Weber later joined William A.M. Burden & Co., L.P., an investment office associated with the Burden family, where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer.[4]
A 1998 article in Forbes discussed William A.M. Burden & Co., L.P. and identified Weber as the firm's chief executive, describing his role in managing the firm's investment activities.[5]
Weber joined York Capital Management in 2004 and served as President of York Capital and a member of the firm's managing partner group.[6]
During Weber’s tenure at York Capital, the firm received significant attention in the financial industry. In 2010, Credit Suisse’s Asset Management division announced an agreement to acquire a minority interest in York Capital Management. The transaction was reported as part of Credit Suisse’s effort to expand client access to hedge fund strategies, while York continued to operate independently under its existing management team.[7][8]
A 2010 article in Hedge Funds Review discussed York Capital’s investment strategies and identified Weber as President of the firm.[9]
Fencing
[edit]Weber has remained active in saber fencing following his investment career. USA Fencing profiled his return to competitive fencing and described his involvement with the sport, including his collegiate fencing background and later participation in fencing leadership.[10]
Weber has served in leadership roles with the United States Fencing Foundation, which supports fencing programs and athletes in the United States.[11]
He has also participated in fencing media initiatives, including appearances connected with The Fencing Show.[12]
Civic leadership
[edit]Weber has served in leadership roles with the Carter Burden Network, a New York City nonprofit organization focused on services for older adults. The organization’s annual reports identify Weber as a board leader.[13]
Film production
[edit]Weber has worked as a film producer and actor.
He served as an executive producer of the short film Fraud (2022), which was included in the Tribeca Festival program.[14]
He was also an executive producer of the documentary film Chasing Chasing Amy (2023), which screened at the Tribeca Festival.[15]
