Jacqueline Smook, better known as Jackie Smook, is an American actor, writer, director and puppet designer.
Early life
[edit]Jacqueline Smook was born in Colorado, United States. When she was five, she took voice lessons, and learned performing arts throughout her childhood.[1] She attended the Denver School of the Arts for six years[2] and graduated in 2015.[3] She studied opera and musical theatre at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee in Boston, Massachusetts[4] and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre in 2019.[5]
Career
[edit]2022-2023: The Jackie Smook Program of De-Dumb-ification and Under Your Skin
[edit]Smook was featured in season 21 of American Idol as a personality hire, where she brought puppets to her performance.[4][6] While in college, she wrote The Jackie Smook Program of De-Dumb-ification,[1] which starred Smook learning how to "[become] a woman, through the grueling trials and tribulations of finding internal worth".[7] In January 2022, she, with pianist Joey Chimes, debuted the show at Davenport’s Piano Bar and Cabaret in Chicago, Illinois and performed there once a month until June.[8][9] In 2023, she performed the show at 54 Below in New York City, New York.[10] In March 2022, Smook debuted Under Your Skin, which retold her experience as a medical assistant.[11][12] Both shows were featured at the United Solo Theatre Festival, which won Smook the "Best Emerging Artist" award and "Critics Choice Award" respectively.[6]
