  • Comment: This is basically just a corporate brochure, it is (ultimately) the company telling the world about itself. We're not interested in that, we want almost exclusively to see what others, esp. reliable and independent secondary sources, have chosen on their own initiative to say about them. There are a couple of sources which may meet those criteria, but they are buried among 15 or so primary sources, routine business reporting, etc. DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:59, 5 August 2026 (UTC)

INTEGRA Biosciences AG is a Swiss manufacturer of laboratory equipment and liquid-handling technologies for the life sciences industry.[1] The company is headquartered in Zizers, Switzerland, and operates an additional site in Hudson, New Hampshire, United States.[2]

History

INTEGRA Biosciences was founded in 1965 as Tecnomara AG, a Zurich-based distributor of laboratory equipment, which INTEGRA Holding acquired in 1985.[6][7] Following a 2001 merger with TECURIA Engineering Ltd.,[8] the company consolidated all of its business activities at a single site in Chur, Switzerland, two years later.[9]

After the 2009 merger with the U.S.-based VIAFLO Corporation,[10] the company moved its Swiss headquarters from Chur to Zizers.[4] INTEGRA Biosciences also acquired its French distribution partner, Valdea, in 2012.[11][12]

Between 2018 and 2025, the company carried out a series of expansions at its Zizers headquarters, beginning with a CHF 20 million investment that increased local production capacity by 150%.[9] In 2021, the company announced plans for a CHF 100 million expansion, aimed at adding automated production facilities, research and development spaces, and an estimated 250 jobs by 2028.[13][14] As part of this expansion, a 33,000-square-meter facility with additional production and development functions was completed in 2024.[15] In 2025, INTEGRA Biosciences opened a new manufacturing facility at its Zizers headquarters, shifting more than half of its global production to Switzerland.[16][17]

Alongside its headquarters expansion, INTEGRA Biosciences also acquired Miroculus, a U.S.-based biotech company, in March 2023.[18][19]

Corporate structure and operations

[edit]

INTEGRA Biosciences is a member of the INTEGRA Group, whose parent company is the Swiss-based INTEGRA Holding AG, a privately held holding company headquartered in Wallisellen, Switzerland.[20][21]

The company's principal manufacturing activities are located in Zizers, Switzerland, with an additional engineering and production facility in Hudson, New Hampshire, United States.[1] According to INTEGRA Holding, the company employed approximately 600 people globally and generated revenue of CHF 156 million in 2024.[2]

Expansions during the COVID-19 pandemic

[edit]

During the COVID-19 pandemic, INTEGRA Biosciences invested CHF 50 million to relocate its pipette-tip production from its US facility to Zizers, citing supply chain disruptions and increased global demand for laboratory equipment and consumables as key factors.[22] The expansion focused on highly automated production processes, which allowed the company to increase manufacturing in Switzerland despite comparatively high labor costs.[22]

Awards

[edit]

INTEGRA Biosciences won the Red Dot Design Award for product design in 2014 for its VIAFLO ASSIST pipetting robot.[23] The ASSIST PLUS pipetting robot also received the Best New General Laboratory Product award for 2018, announced at Pittcon in March 2019.[24]

In 2020, the company received the Swiss Manufacturing Award and placed second in the Prix SVC Ostschweiz competition.[25][26] In 2021, the company was named Life Sciences Company of the Year in SelectScience's annual awards program.[27]
