How To Loot Brazil is a German band from Soest, formed in 2006.[1]
History
[edit]The band's name was taken from a fictional book in The Simpsons episode "Blame It on Lisa". Founder Maik Timmermann created a Myspace page for the band and began posting music there.[1]
How To Loot Brazil released their debut album, Auto Fister, on TV Eye Records in 2009. Visions described the record as post-punk and new wave, comparing the band with Joy Division and ¡Forward, Russia!.[2]
In 2010, the band were one of two winners of a cover competition organised by the Beatsteaks. Their version of "Milk & Honey" was included on the maxi-single released in January 2011.[3]
The songs "Shout Out Love" and "Move Operator" were used in the 2012 American comedy film Noobz.[4] A 2013 review of Dead-Eyed Monkeys in Ox-Fanzine described the band's indie songs as having "unschätzbares Hitpotenzial" ("invaluable hit potential").[5]
In 2017, Brazilian newspaper O Globo published an article about How To Loot Brazil in which Timmermann discussed the band's name and its beginnings.[6]
In June 2019, How To Loot Brazil were featured on 1LIVE's Plan B Heimatkult in a programme that included an interview with Timmermann and music by the band.[7]
After receiving requests from producers to remix the band's music, Timmermann made vocal tracks from the band's recordings available online. Producers including Never Surrender, French Fuse and Mojjo used the material.[1]
Kodak Black used the chorus of "Errror" on his 2021 single "Super Gremlin". The song reached number three on the US Billboard Hot 100[1] and was certified six-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in July 2026.[8]
How To Loot Brazil also produced a remix of "Flashbacks" by Ostberlin Androgyn, released by Audiolith in 2021.[9]
Joy to Be Had was released by Düsseldorf label K22 Music in 2024.[10] Obscure Sound called the album a blend of electro-pop and indie rock and noted the interplay between synthesizers and guitars.[11]
Krautpleaser was released in 2025 on the band's own label, Look! Mum! No Hit!.[12] French music site Extravafrench identified post-punk, synth-pop and hyperpop elements on the album and cited The Smiths, Depeche Mode and Justice as reference points.[13]
