Henry Lunsford was an English Lieutenant-colonel during the English Civil War. Lunsford took part in the Battle of Marshall's Elm, Battle of Chalgrove Field, and the Storming of Bristol.[1]

Military Career

[edit]

Lunsford was already a Lieutenant-Colonel in 1640, but we don't know exactly when he enlisted.[2] On August 4, 1642, Lunsford, along with Sir John Stawell, engaged with Parliamentarian forces at Marshall's Elm. Though they were outnumbered badly, the Parliamentarian general Sir John Pyne ordered a withdrawal of his troops.[3] On June 18, 1643, Lunsford, with Prince Rupert, Lord Wentworth, and William Legge battled the Parliamentarian forces at the Battle of Chalgrove Field and won.[4] From July 23 to 26 1643, Lunsford, along with Prince Rupert and Prince Maurice stormed and attacked Bristol and battled against Parliamentarian forces. The Royalists won, but Lunsford was killed in the action.[5]
