Game Over and Over is a 2024 American animated short film directed by Christophe Delisle, Christophe Lourdelet, and Ludovic Roz, and written by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux. Produced from Illumination, the short film takes place after the events of the second Minions film from its spin-off series of Despicable Me franchise as it follows Stuart trying out an experimental controller made by Gru that turns Kevin and the world around him into a real-life video game.
The short film was released as a mini-movie for Despicable Me 4 on September 24, 2024 on digital, by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.[1]
Plot
[edit]Setting after the events of Minions: The Rise of Gru, Kevin and Stuart were playing a game, but Stuart lost when he got distracted by Bob who wants to play a disco video game. When Stuart accidentally breaks his controller in frustration, he goes into Gru's lab and take one of his inventions which is a prototype game controller. However, the controller doesn't connect to the TV but makes Kevin as playable character, making the world around him as a video game. Stuart gives this a ahot and controls Kevin throughout the town from Level 1 being as a platforming level with the neighborhood, Level 2 being a capture the flag scenrio in an FPS style, and Level 3 is a GTA-like level when Stuart makes Kevin stole some donuts from the police officers at their station. During this, Stuart starts gaining points that earns him over 999,997 points. Realizing he didn't hit over 1 million points, Kevin crashes back down from riding up a tall building on a vespa and takes the controller without noticed, turning the tide on Stuart to make him Player 2.

[edit]The short was nominated for Best Original Score in a Short Animated Film but was lost to another Illumination short film Fly Hard at the 15th Hollywood Music in Media Awards.[3]
