FirstBell (also written as First Bell) is an American financial education publisher and digital platform operated by Kentfield Inc. The service focuses on AI-powered stock discovery and publishes a "Stock of the Day" on each United States stock-market trading day. Its daily features present educational information and analysis about publicly traded companies, including financial performance, valuation data, analyst estimates, market information, company background, and recent developments.[1]
FirstBell uses an artificial intelligence system called FirstBell IQ as part of its company-screening and stock-discovery process.[2] The service is available through its website and through mobile applications for iOS and Android.[3][4]
Platform
[edit]FirstBell is structured around presenting one publicly traded company on each U.S. stock-market trading day rather than operating primarily as a continuously updated financial-news feed or conventional stock screener. The company describes its approach as "AI-powered stock discovery".[2]
According to FirstBell's published methodology, the platform evaluates publicly traded companies using financial, market, growth, valuation, analyst, and stock-performance data before selecting companies for consideration as its Stock of the Day.[5]
The platform places particular emphasis on introducing users to companies beyond widely followed large-capitalization stocks. Its published materials describe the service as focusing on company discovery and financial education rather than individualized investment recommendations.[2][5]
Stock of the Day
[edit]The Stock of the Day is FirstBell's primary recurring editorial feature. A publicly traded company is selected for each U.S. market trading day and presented with information intended to help users understand the company, its financial position, and factors affecting its stock.[5]
A typical Stock of the Day feature may include:
- a description of the company's business and operations;
- revenue, earnings, margins, and other financial information;
- valuation measures, including the price–earnings ratio;
- analyst ratings, estimates, and price targets;
- recent company news and corporate developments;
- historical stock-price information and performance data; and
- discussion of potential risks, catalysts, and other factors affecting the company.[2][5]
FirstBell publishes the same Stock of the Day editorial material generally to its users rather than creating individualized stock selections for individual users.[5]
FirstBell IQ
[edit]FirstBell IQ is the name used by FirstBell for the artificial intelligence system involved in its stock-discovery and company-analysis process. FirstBell states that the system evaluates financial and market data across publicly traded companies as part of the process used to identify candidates for the Stock of the Day.[6]
The factors considered by the system include company growth, valuation, financial performance, analyst information, market data, and historical stock performance.[6][5]
FirstBell uses the phrase "AI-powered stock discovery" to describe this process.[2]
Editorial approach
[edit]FirstBell describes its content as financial education and editorial market commentary rather than individualized investment advice.[5]
The platform's publishing format is designed around examining one company at a time. In addition to financial data, daily features may include company history, business-model information, recent corporate events, market developments, and explanations of financial concepts relevant to the featured company.[1][5]
Historical performance
[edit]FirstBell maintains a historical record of previously featured Stocks of the Day. The record includes the date on which a company was featured, a reference share price, and subsequent stock-price performance.[1]
Previously selected companies remain part of the historical record regardless of whether their stock prices subsequently increase or decrease. FirstBell states that the historical performance information is presented for educational and illustrative purposes and does not represent the performance of an investment portfolio or predict future results.[1]
Availability
[edit]FirstBell operates through its website, FirstBell.com, and through mobile applications distributed via Apple's App Store and Google Play.[3][4]
The iOS application is published by Kentfield Inc. and is listed in the Finance and Education category on Apple's App Store.[3] The Android application is also distributed through Google Play.[4]
