Career
[edit]Before entering Formula One, Pilotti worked in information technology in the financial and automotive sectors. His earlier career included positions at Deutsche Bank and Daimler Financial Services.
Pilotti subsequently joined Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, where he spent more than a decade and became chief information officer. The company designs, manufactures and tests the hybrid power units used by Mercedes in Formula One.
In 2021, Italian newspaper ‘‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’’ profiled Pilotti in connection with Mercedes’ use of data and information technology in Formula One. Pilotti described the IT operation supporting the organisation and the role of data analysis before, during and after races.
Pilotti left Mercedes and joined the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team as chief information officer in July 2025. As CIO, he is responsible for the team’s underlying information technology, including infrastructure and trackside technology.
Technology in Formula One
[edit]Pilotti’s work in Formula One has centred on the technology infrastructure used to support engineering, simulation, manufacturing and race operations.
During his time at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, Pilotti discussed the role of information technology in managing and analysing the large quantities of data generated by Formula One operations. In a 2021 interview with ‘‘La Gazzetta dello Sport’’, he described how data was analysed before, during and after races and how information was exchanged between trackside operations and facilities in England.
At Aston Martin, his responsibilities extend across the team’s information technology environment. ‘‘Computer Weekly’’ reported in 2026 that his role encompasses infrastructure management and trackside IT, as well as the technology used by the wider organisation.
The use of artificial intelligence in Formula One has become another area associated with Pilotti’s work at Aston Martin. The ‘‘Financial Times’’ examined the increasing relationship between artificial intelligence and Formula One in its 2026 feature ‘‘Speed meets technology: how AI is changing Formula 1’’.
In an interview with ‘‘Computer Weekly’’, Pilotti said that Formula One had been using machine learning before its widespread adoption in other industries and discussed the increasing use of agentic artificial intelligence. At Aston Martin, applications under consideration included software development and optimisation of enterprise processes such as enterprise resource planning.
German technology publication ‘‘CIO’’ also reported on Pilotti and Aston Martin’s approach to data in 2026. It described the large quantities of information generated by Formula One cars and the use of data processing and simulation at the team’s Silverstone facilities.
Pilotti has also discussed the communications infrastructure required to move Formula One data between cars, garages and remote facilities. In a 2026 interview with ‘‘Mobile World Live’’, he discussed Aston Martin’s use of communications technologies to support trackside and factory operations.Carroll, Michael (21 July 2026). "Interview: How does an F1 team join the data dots?". Mobile World Live. Retrieved 12 September 2026.
Technology publication ‘‘TechInformed’’ covered Pilotti’s work on Aston Martin’s artificial-intelligence and technology ecosystem, including computing infrastructure and the use of external technology partners within the constraints of Formula One’s cost cap.Deslandes, Nicole (29 July 2026). "Inside Aston Martin Aramco F1's AI partner ecosystem". TechInformed. Retrieved 12 September 2026.
Management and technology strategy
[edit]Pilotti has described the pace of Formula One as a distinguishing feature of technology leadership in the sport. In a 2026 profile, ‘‘Computer Weekly’’ reported that more than a decade in motorsport had shaped his approach to digital leadership, particularly the need to manage multiple engineering and operational priorities simultaneously.
At Aston Martin, projects under his responsibility have included the team’s enterprise application environment and development of trackside systems. He has emphasised infrastructure that enables engineering teams to iterate rapidly and use feedback to improve systems and processes.
Pilotti has also argued that increased automation does not eliminate the importance of engineers and other specialists. Discussing the adoption of artificial intelligence and automation in Formula One, he has emphasised the continued role of human expertise in engineering and manufacturing processes.
