Olga Viza López (born 18 August 1958) is a Spanish journalist.
Biography
[edit]She debuted on Televisión Española in January 1978, before finishing her journalism studies, specifically on the sports show Polideportivo. In the following years, she alternated sports reporting with sporadic incursions into other television genres, such as the musical program Exterior día (1981).
From the sports program Estadio 2, during the second half of the 1980s and early 1990s, she had the opportunity to narrate major sporting events, ranging from the FIFA World Cup in Spain to the Barcelona Olympic Games. All of this was compatible with her work as a sports anchor on Telediario between 1987 and 1992.[1]
In September 1992, she signed with Antena 3 Televisión, where she directed and presented the midday edition of Antena 3 Noticias alongside José Antonio Gavira.[2] During this stage, the anchor duo achieved a historic milestone: surpassing for the first time the viewership ratings of TVE's Telediario, which was then presented by Matías Prats.
In 1993, she also actively participated as a street journalist in the special edition of Nieves Herrero's program De tú a tú following the discovery of the bodies of the girls from the Alcàsser crime, a broadcast that is remembered today as one of the worst expressions of trash TV.
In September 1998, she returned to sports reporting on the second edition of Antena 3 Noticias, alongside the then general director of news Ernesto Sáenz de Buruaga. A year later, she co-presented the general news section on that same edition. In January 2001, she reunited with Matías Prats, with whom she had broadcast the Barcelona '92 Olympics, on the Noticias 1 news program. She remained in this slot until September 2003, joined during her final season by Manu Carreño. She bid farewell to the Antena 3 audience amid applause from her colleagues after 11 years of reporting the daily news on the network. Her departure coincided with a restructuring process at the network that led to a collective dismissal procedure (ERE), though she left the station weeks prior after failing to find an available project to join.
On Antena 3 Internacional, she hosted the show Gente de Palabra.
After a brief stint at Telecinco with the program No es lo mismo (2004), she moved to La Sexta, where she took charge of the interview program Habitación 623 in early 2006.
Between 2004 and 2006, she hosted the afternoon magazine show El Tranvía de Olga on Radio 1 RNE, featuring collaborations with Javier Capitán. During the 2006–2007 season, she led the morning program Las Mañanas de Radio 1 on RNE.
Her career is notable for her specialization in sports coverage: six Olympic Games, three World Cups, events of the Motorcycle World Championship and the Formula One World Championship, as well as gymnastics, tennis, fencing, and golf tournaments. In September 2007, she signed with the sports newspaper Marca, where she published a weekly interview.
On 3 March 2008, she moderated the second electoral debate between the Prime Minister of Spain José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and the leader of the opposition Mariano Rajoy.
In 2009, she returned to television, joining the regional station Aragón TV.
In 2022, back at Antena 3 Televisión, she joined as a contributor on the show Y ahora Sonsoles, hosted by Sonsoles Ónega
