Dang Tat Thang (Template:Lang-vi; born 29 October 1981), also known as Eric Dang, is a Vietnamese businessman. He served as chief executive officer of Bamboo Airways from its founding in 2017 and later became chairman of both Bamboo Airways and FLC Group in 2022.[1]

Early life and education

[edit]

Thang was born in Hanoi. He holds a bachelor's degree in architecture from Hanoi University of Architecture and a master's degree in construction and project management from Northumbria University in the United Kingdom.[2]

Career

[edit]

Early career

[edit]

Before entering aviation, Thang worked in architectural design and project management roles, including positions with Compass Group (UK), CapitaLand Vietnam, and Viet Star Group.[2]

FLC Group and Bamboo Airways

[edit]

Thang joined FLC Group in July 2014 as head of investment, later becoming vice general director of the conglomerate.[2]

In 2017, he was involved in the establishment of Bamboo Airways and was appointed its founding chief executive officer, subsequently serving as vice chairman and then chairman.[3][1] During his time as an executive, the airline expanded its fleet and began operating Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.[4]

In March 2022, following the arrest of FLC chairman Trinh Van Quyet, Thang was appointed chairman of both FLC Group and Bamboo Airways.[1][5] He resigned from his executive positions at both organizations in July 2022.[6]

Later ventures

[edit]

After leaving Bamboo Airways, Thang was reported to be involved in the founding of AVi8 Airways, a Cambodia-based aviation venture.

[edit]

In May 2024, Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security issued a public notice seeking information about Thang in connection with an investigation into social media posts concerning the leadership of a Vietnamese bank.[7][8]
