Edward Kallio
[edit]Edward Kallio is a Canadian economist and energy analyst who has been cited in Canadian news outlets and North American energy trade media on topics including liquefied natural gas (LNG), pipeline economics, and energy market issues.[1][2][3]
Education
[edit]Kallio holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Swansea University (Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law).[1]
Early career
[edit]After graduation, Kallio worked for Amoco Canada Petroleum Company.[4] After the enactment of the National Energy Program (NEP) in Canada, he worked on energy policy matters with the federal government and the Alberta Department of Energy, and was seconded to the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission (APMC).[5][6]
During this period, he prepared analysis related to the Alaska Natural Gas Transportation System prebuild and participated in pipeline toll proceedings on behalf of Alberta.[7][8]
Career
[edit]Kallio later returned to the private sector with Pan-Alberta Gas, where he was involved in the marketing of ANGTS prebuild natural gas in Canada and the United States.[9] He also held marketing-related roles with Continental Gas Marketing (Duke), Western Gas Resources, Equitable, and Superior Energy Management in Canada and the United States.[10][11]
He later worked in research and advisory roles associated with Ziff Energy Group and Solomon Associates.[12] His work has included analysis of oil and natural gas full-cycle and breakeven costs and their effect on energy prices.[13]
Kallio has also been associated with work on LNG export licence applications, assessments of North American pipeline projects, and analysis related to large power projects including Muskrat Falls.[14][15][16][17]
Kallio is an executive advisor at Incorrys, a Calgary-based energy consulting firm.[1]
Energy policy views
[edit]In commentary on the Canadian LNG business case, Kallio has argued that federal and provincial net-zero policies are a major obstacle to investment in new large-scale projects, citing the federal Clean Electricity Regulations and British Columbia's CleanBC legislation.[18][19][20][21]
He also argues that the proposed Pathways carbon capture and storage (CCS) project should not be linked to a new Alberta to Pacific Pipeline, as the burden on industry and taxpayers will be prohibitive and make the new pipeline uncompetitive.[22]
