Dentrix Ascend is a cloud-based dental practice management software product owned by Henry Schein One, and joint venture of Henry Schein and Internet Brands. It is used by dental practices and dental service organizations (DSOs) for scheduling, billing, clinical charting, and imaging.
History
[edit]Dentrix Ascend was introduced in beta by Henry Schein, Inc. in February 2013 as the company's first cloud-based practice management system, following its existing Dentrix software line.[1]
In April 2018, Henry Schein and Internet Brands formed a joint venture named Henry Schein One, combining Henry Schein's dental practice management brands, including Dentrix and Dentrix Ascend, with Internet Brands dental marketing and web software business. The joint venture was headquartered in American Fork, Utah, and initially employed 1,500 people. The transaction closed in July 2018.[2]
Adoption
[edit]In October 2022, Smile Brands, a dental support organization operating roughly 700 affiliated practices, selected Dentrix Ascend as the exclusive practice management system across its network.[3][4]
Reception
[edit]TechRadar reviewed Dentrix Ascend, describing it as offering strong practice-analysis tools and multiple support channels, while noting drawbacks include opaque pricing, limited support hours, and lack of mobile apps.[5]
Litigation
[edit]In 2025, Henry Schein One and dental technology vendor Vyne Dental filed competing federal lawsuits over data access to the Dentrix platform, with Vyne alleging Henry Schein One restricted is software's access and Henry Schein One alleging unauthorized access to Dentrix systems.[6][7]
