Conor McMahon (August 23rd, 1979), is an Irish film director and editor, from Dublin Ireland.

Education

[edit]

Conor attended Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT), between 1998 – 2001, where he specialised in directing and editing. He’s made numerous short films, music videos and documentaries.[1] His short film The Braineater (2001) won ‘Best Film’ at the Sitges Film Festival.[2]

Career

[edit]

McMahon began as an editor, making filmmaking tutorial videos for Fresh Film Festival.[3] He released his first feature film Dead Meat in 2004, with aid from Screen Ireland.[4] While the film received mostly negative reviews, ScreenAnarchy stated they felt McMahon had potential, despite the film being “poorly put together”.[5] Fangoria would later refer to McMahon as being one of the first Irish filmmakers to do an “indigenous-made Irish horror”.[6]

The Irish filmmaker would release a few more, less notable works between 2008-2010, including The Disturbed (2009), Dublin 26.06.08 (2008) and his first television series Zombie Bashers (2010) alongside RTÉ.[7]

In 2012, McMahon released Stitches.[8][9] The film received positive reviews from the likes of The Guardian[10] and won the ‘Best Kill Award’ at that years FrightFest. In 2014, McMahon directed From The Dark.[11] In 2019, he directed 2 episodes of Darklands.

In 2021, McMahon directed the vampire comedy thriller Let the Wrong One In (named as a rib of the film Let the Right One In), which was released by Wildcard Distribution[12][13] McMahon got two nominations at the Irish Film & Television Awards (IFTAS)[14]
