Abdul Aziz "Ringo" Hard, known professionally as Aziz Ringo, is a Ugandan heavyweight boxer from the West Nile sub-region.[1] He is a grandson of former Ugandan President Idi Amin, who was himself a national boxing champion.[2][3] He fights out of the Kololo Boxing Club and represents Uganda's national boxing team, the Bombers, in the 92 kg (heavyweight/super-heavyweight) division.[3][4]
Early life
[edit]Ringo is from the West Nile sub-region of Uganda and was introduced to boxing by his brother.[2] He trains under coach Sam Kabugo and has cited Mike Tyson as an influence on his style.
Amateur career
[edit]Uganda Boxing Champions League
[edit]Ringo won the heavyweight (92 kg) title of the Uganda Boxing Champions League (UBCL) at the end of its 2024 edition, stopping defending champion-era rival Jonah Galiwango by technical knockout in the opening round of their bout, which concluded on 26 December 2024.[2] He defended the belt in the league's 2025 grand finale at Lugogo Arena in a rematch against Galiwango on Boxing Day.[5]
Africa Zone 3 Boxing Championships
[edit]In October 2025, Ringo was selected among 15 Ugandan boxers for the Africa Zone 3 Boxing Championships, held 16–25 October 2025 at the Kasarani Gymnasium in Nairobi, Kenya — his first appearance for the Ugandan national team.[3] Competing in the 92 kg category, he reached the final with two stoppage wins, including a first-round RSC victory over Mbangi Mukewa of the Democratic Republic of Congo.[6][7] He won the gold medal in the final, one of five golds won by Uganda at the championships.[8]
2026 Commonwealth Games
[edit]Ringo was selected as one of six boxers on Uganda's Bombers squad for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, competing in the heavyweight (92 kg) division.[4][9][10] His bout was scheduled to begin between 24 and 29 July 2026, with the boxing finals on 1 August.[11]
Professional career
[edit]Ringo made his professional debut on 12 July 2025 in the super heavyweight division.[1]
