Draft:Anthony Doke

  • Comment: I added a few more citations, there does seem to be sustained coverage on this individual and his organisation, albeit its on crime. However I think it should meet WP:GNG as they were not a one off event Flyingphoenixchips (talk) 17:29, 8 September 2026 (UTC)

Anthony Doke
Known forLeadership of the National Liberation Council of Taniland and the United Tani Army

Anthony Doke is a Tani militant leader from Arunachal Pradesh, India[1][2]. He is the chairman of the United Tani Army (UTA), an armed group associated with the National Socialist Council of Taniland, and was earlier a leader of the National Liberation Council of Taniland (NLCT), a Tani separatist group active in the 2000s.[3]

Career

[edit]

Doke led the NLCT, a Tani separatist group formed around 2005 that sought a separate Taniland and engaged in extortion.[4][5] In 2009 police described him as the outfit's self-styled commander-in-chief and arrested him in Sivasagar, Assam, and by the end of 2010 the NLCT had been largely neutralised.[6][4]

At the end of 2024 Doke declared himself as the chairman of the Tani army and opposed hydropower projects in the state, demanding the cancellation of all agreements signed with developers.[7] He released videos of armed camps and was believed by officials to be operating from Myanmar.[8][9] In 2025 police booked the group under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and described Doke as a habitual offender with more than 20 criminal cases relating to extortion and firearms.[10][5]

In January 2025, Doke publicly responded to Inspector General of Police Chukhu Apa, describing the UTA as a branch of the National Socialist Council of Taniland and naming 7 March as the group's foundation day.[11]
