Anthony DeVito is an American stand-up comedian and television writer. He is best known for his appearances on Comedy Central and This American Life.[1][2] He is also a WGA Award-nominated writer for his work on The Daily Show.[3]
Early life
[edit]DeVito grew up in Bloomfield, New Jersey.[4] He studied architecture in college before pursuing comedy.[5] DeVito has said that he learned at age 18 that his father had been a member of an organized crime family.[6][7]
Career

[edit]DeVito began performing at open mics in New York City.[5] In 2012 he was selected as one of the "New Faces" at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal,[8] and in 2015 he won the March Madness stand-up competition at Carolines on Broadway.[1]
On March 10, 2017, DeVito made his network television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.[9] In April 2017, he taped a half-hour episode of Comedy Central Stand-Up Presents in New Orleans, which aired later that year.[1] His debut album, Dream Occupation, was released by Comedy Central Records in August 2017.[10][11]
He has also performed on Comedy Central's Adam Devine's House Party and AXS TV's Gotham Comedy Live,[1] and appeared on TV Land's The Jim Gaffigan Show.[4] In 2022, he released a special, Brain Noise, on YouTube.[12] In 2025, he premiered a new stand-up hour Straight Hoopin' on YouTube.[13]
He has appeared on Stavvy's World, We Might Be Drunk with Mark Normand and Sam Morril, and the Are You Garbage podcast.[14][15][16]
Television writing
[edit]In 2017 DeVito was head writer and a regular panelist on People Talking Sports (And Other Stuff), a late-night program hosted by Sam Morril on MSG Networks.[10][17]
He was a staff writer on the Netflix series The Break with Michelle Wolf.[5] He also wrote jokes for Michelle Wolf's performance at the 2018 White House Correspondents' Dinner.[12]
DeVito was among the Daily Show writers credited in the show's nomination for the 2024 Writers Guild of America Award for Comedy/Variety Talk Series.[18]
Storytelling and solo show
[edit]In November 2015 DeVito told a story about his grandmother in the "Transformers" episode of the public radio program This American Life.[2]
DeVito developed a solo show about his father.[19] Under the title My Dad Isn't Danny DeVito, he performed it in the United States in early 2022[20] and at Just the Tonic at The Mash House during the August 2022 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it was reviewed by The Guardian, The Scotsman and The List.[21][22][7] He has since performed the show as Jersey Boy: A True Crime Story.[23]
